Can you elaborate a little on the export process? It's probably not worth the effort, but I could give it a try.
Where it's most useful is when I need to know when I arrived or departed a location with some accuracy. If you arrive at, say, a shopping mall then wander around for a while, the time of arrival as determined by Timeline is not always accurate (it gets fooled by the movement around the parking lot or the mall), especially if you are bouncing between cell towers/etc. A quick look at the 'dots' and their timestamps along the road makes it very easy to determine exactly when you arrived.

I will really miss this feature. Why did it go away?
I figured that out, but - what makes an album become 'hidden' in the first place?  I have dozens of albums, and I didn't realize 'some' may be hidden. I guess I will need to go through every single entry in the 'shared' tab, and look for any that are hidden.

Also, what about albums that are NOT shared - are they guaranteed not to be hidden - that is, all unshared albums show in the 'albums' view without exception?
@Janvb - when you say 'also downloads ...' - are you saying, it downloads originals AND (also) edited copies, or just edited copies? (the word 'also' suggests in addition to).

Oh boy - I just tried to reproduce the problem with the exact same photos as yesterday, but cannot! Now, the downloaded photos are the edited versions, not the originals! I even edited a few more from a couple of years ago, in case that mattered, but again I got the edited version, without having to add them to an album.

So all I can imagine is, there was a 'glitch' yesterday at the time I was downloading, that got quickly corrected. I'm quite positive that the problem occurred because I still have the 'Photos-001.zip' file from yesterday that confirms what I saw - the unedited versions. Maybe yesterday, the edits were visible to me (and thus existed on some google cloud storage location) but not yet sync'd to some other location, and the download pulled from that 'outdated' location.  I tried making some quick edits locally, and then downloading them immediately after editing, but still I got the edited versions.

Regardless - I can't see the problem now so I'll just have to keep an eye on the situation next time I download some edited images.

Thanks for responding.
I need to bulk-download edited photos to my PC
Google Photos2023/12/19
I have edited hundreds of photos using photos.google.com on my PC. I now want to download them all to my PC.

If I multi-select them all, and then choose 'more' (3 dots), I see 'download'. But what that gives me is a 'zip' file full of the original photos, not the edited photos.

If I open each individual photo, one-by-one, and then choose 'more' (3 dots), I see both 'download' and 'download original'. Choosing 'download' gives me the EDITED photo, which is what I want.  But I don't have time to open each file in turn; I want to multi-select the hundreds of photos and chose a single 'download' option, and get all the edited versions at once.

Is this possible?

UPDATE - I found that if I create an album for the edited images (multi-select the images, choose 'add to or create new' (the plus sign) ), then selecting multiple images and then 'download' downloads the EDITED version, as I want.  So this seems to be an inconsistency in the UI; if you are viewing the complete set of photos, and you multi-select and choose 'download', you get the originals, but if you are viewing an album of photos, and you multi-select and choose 'download', you get the edited versions!  And if you open individual photos, you are given the choice between original and edited!   I really don't want to have to create albums for these pictures (I have way too many albums already) so is there a way to achieve what I'm wanting without creating albums?

Today I found a workaround!  When you right-click an image in the browser, and choose 'Search image with Google', a small sidebar opens up on the page, as shown in my original screenshot above. In this sidebar, the 'text' and 'translate' buttons do nothing. But - if I hit the 'open in a new tab' button, a new tab opens showing the 'sidebar' content full screen, and now, the 'text' and 'translate' buttons work!

Here's the original page with the sidebar:

And here's the new tab, showing the sidebar content, with 'translate' working:

Playing around with this, and other images, I'm finding that 'sometimes' it works in the sidebar, but most often it does not.  So far, it's always worked if I open the sidebar in a new tab.

Has no one else experienced this flakiness?
Videos are being saved with incorrect timestamps while photos are good
Google Photos2023/11/21
I take mostly photos on my Samsung S10, plus occasional short videos.  I have Google Photos on my phone to sync images to Google storage.  A month ago I took 4 short (<1 min) videos in succession, roughly 5 minutes apart. I just looked at them in Google photos, and they are somewhat randomly 'mis-filed' in the timeline, (interspersed between images taken earlier) but not by much - less than an hour. Interestingly, the google photos timestamp is EARLIER than the actual timestamp.  I downloaded all the images to my windows laptop, and there they sort correctly, and even the Samsung "Gallery" app on the phone sorts them correctly.

The filename of photos and videos on a Samsung phone are basically date+time, so it's easy to see the problem. Google Photos shows the filename in the 'info' panel, and for photos, the filename and the date align perfectly. But for videos, it's off by a seemingly random amount.

Here's one such entry in Google Photos:

As you can see, Filename is '20231021_105957.mp4' (10:59 or 11:00 with rounding), while the 'date/time' is 10:01. I know the filename 'time' to be correct.

The others are similar - off by about an hour (but not exactly an hour).

I can fix this by manually editing the date/time field but it's super tedious.  Anyone know how to prevent this?

Note - other similar posts seem related to timezone issues, with delta's in the exact hour range.   I was in Eastern Europe at the time but that doesn't seem to be relevant.
"Search Image with Google" (web) not finding text or able to translate
Google Search2023/11/20
Using Google Chrome on my Windows 11 laptop, I opened a simple page on the internet with an image containing some some clear French text  - https://favim.com/image/3630517/ .
I then right-clicked the image, and chose 'Search image with Google'.  A sidebar opens, showing the image, and with three options below - Search, Text, Translate. The 'Search' seems to be doing something, but 'Text' and 'Translate' yield 'No results for the selected area'.

But if I pull up the same page on my android phone, and long-press the text/image, and choose 'Search image with Google Lens', the text is correctly selected, and I can choose 'Translate' at the bottom of the screen, and it does a perfect job of translating the text to English.

Is something broken in my browser?

Thanks.  Strangely, the problem cleared itself shortly after posting the above issue.  However, I recall, the issue 'came and went' while I was travelling also so it may return (I travelled through 7 countries/languages so it probably got stressed :) ).

I looked at the 'Search Region' you mentioned. it was set to 'default' ('Current Region (default)'). There are options for Czechia and US, but neither are selected.   Can you elaborate a bit about what 'search region' is relative to the adjacent setting 'search language'?  Since I'm clearly in the US now, and the phone is quite aware (time zone, etc), I can't imagine why it was still latching onto czech.

Also - is there a simple answer to the question - what's the difference between the 'Google' app and 'Chrome'?  They both seem to offer me search capabilities.
My google search results is stuck in another language
Google Search2023/11/3
I was traveling in Europe and used my phone (Samsung S10, Chrome browser) to search.  Now I'm back in the US, my search results page is stuck in (what I believe to be) Czech language. The results themselves are in English, but the labels / buttons / headers are in the foreign language.  I've looked everywhere, and everything I see is set to English.
Example screen shot: This is the result I get when asking a question about NBA schedule; the result shown is in english, but all the labels, and the 'what others are asking', etc are in Czech.

My phone - Samsung S10 with Android 12 / OneUI 4.1 (latest for this phone) - is set (settings/General Management/Language) to English (US), and Chrome (settings/Advanced/Languages) is set to English (current device language, preferred language).
When I go to my google account on the phone, I see this:

Since I don't know what the labels are, I'm hesitant to start tapping on the various labels - that may be how I got into this mess.

I use Chrome on my windows laptop also, and have the two synched. Some of this 'foreign language' behavior seems to have migrated over to it, but I seem to have cleaned that up now on the web side, but I can't get the phone to revert to english.

Nothing else on the phone seems to be affected, not even google photos; it's just the google chrome search results and the google account page from what I can tell.

I should add - one of the biggest issues I ran into while overseas was that results would be entirely in (eg) Czech or Hungarian or whatever, despite numerous attempts to force the results to be in English. I know Google can't always detect a language, but in my case, every single result was in the current country's language, even though I tried everything to force English.

Car Audio not playing Android Auto
Android Auto2022/12/24
AA version - 8.5.624594; Samsung S10+ phone;  Toyota Venza Hybrid car.

When I attach my phone to my car via USB cable and launch AA, the car screen correctly displays AA. From that screen, I can launch Google Maps successfully. But if I navigate back to the main AA menu, and choose a music player (eg, Spotify or Eon music player), the sound does not play.  I discovered that I have to exit Android Auto on the car head unit, go into the Audio app on the car, and switch input from (eg) FM radio to Android Auto; then, when I re-launch AA on the car's head unit, and play music, I can hear the music through the car speakers.  If I then stop / turn off the car, and then re-start the car, and re-launch AA on the car, Google Maps again works but my music player is silent until I again force the audio system on the car to use AA as its input.

So my question is - is it the design intent of AA that the car's audio can have a different 'source' even when AA has been launched on the car?  It would seem logical to me that, when you launch AA on the car, you are telling the car to hand over control of the display, the touch screen, and the audio system to AA (and presumably any external buttons like next/previous track, etc).

Also, who is responsible for writing the AA software on the 'car head unit'; is that a google product or a vehicle manufacturer product?  Should I be looking to update the AA software on the car's head unit ?

I'm also experiencing this issue with Kathy/Cathy, Eric/Erik, etc.  I see the tip about entering phoenetic alternatives in 'Google Contacts', but for me, I seem to be using a native (Samsung? Android? Verizon?) 'contacts' app on my Samsung S10 android phone, not 'google contacts'.  When I launch the 'contacts' app, I can't see any ownership (no vendor name). If I say, 'ok google - launch contacts', it launches to a website 'contacts.google.com', and only a handful of contacts are there. I've synched my phone with my outlook address book and I have hundreds of contacts in there.
Google Chrome2020/2/22
For anyone else confused by this - the plugins page (chrome://plugins) is no longer supported. It would be really helpful if Google would create a 'landing' page when users visit this to say 'plugins no longer supported' or similar, rather than the 'site not found' (or page not found, or whatever).  When you google/search for answers, hundreds of pages are still telling you to visit chrome://plugins to view / adjust plugins!

Also the poster above says 'open settings, go to site settings ...'. You first have to visit 'advanced', then  'privacy and security' before you can get to 'site settings'.  So the instruction should be 'open settings, open Advanced, open privacy and security, then 'site settings'.
I just switched from Samsung Messages to Google Messages; within 5 minutes, I've had to switch back because I can't resize text.  Perhaps those who say 'pinch to zoom' works for them can give us a bit of extra info. For me, 'pinch to zoom' does not work. Samsung S10+; Android 10; OneUI version 2.0.

Text sizing is a core 'accessibility' feature that all vendors should be supporting as a most basic requirement.
Windows 10 user here (version 1903). I was getting the same error as reported here. Downloading / installing with the latest 64-bit 'full installer' worked fine.

As a 35-year veteran of programming and IT, I'd say this is an issue with Google's 'quick' installer. Yes, it's a Microsoft error that is being thrown, not a Google error, but - that MS error is being thrown because of some method or technique used in the quick installer that is not used in the full installer. Perhaps MS changed the rules on what they allow installation programs to do. It seems futile for end-users to go down the path of trying to troubleshoot what the problem is here when no-one seems to be able to get the quick installer to work. Simply download the full installer and everything is fine. If I were google and I wanted people to use my product, I'd assign a developer to looking into why this is happening. They may work with MS along the way and jointly decide whether a change to the google installer is needed or MS needs to fix something.  But in the meantime - use the full installer.
