Hard to hear on phone calls
0
Hello,

Just got the Pixel 5. Love the phone but aware the top speaker is under the screen. I've got the volume cranked up to full but it's hard to hear people I'm speaking to. Did a test this morning in my quiet living room. I could hear them but not massively. I feel as soon as I go into a louder environment it will be impossible to hear. Any one else experienced this?

Thanks

Indeed, figured that out this morning! I do work in construction and I struggled to hear, my previous devices had no issues. Other than that I love the Pixel 5. Hope they can sort something!

Yup, same for me too. My only issue for what is otherwise a great phone. I have the in-call volume cranked up almost to the highest. I can feel the vibration of the audio through the screen but the volume is tame. Higher frequencies possible seem better. I have a tempered glass screen protector on and wondered if that would cause any issue but I don't think so. Hopefully this is a software issue!

Same issue. When talkin outdoors I need to put loudspeaker on. I played music from phone and even when I cover bottom speaker the top one is quite loud. But not for talking. So i think it might be fixed with update. My pixel 3a xl is way, way louder, I sometimes need to put the volume down a bit.

Same here, I'm finding really difficult to hear during phone calls unless I press my whole ear against the display glass. I actually found lowering the call volume slightly improved the sound quality and it wasn't as distorted. I feel this is a design defect and I'm not sure it can be fixed with a software update. I'm considering returning it and getting the Pixel 4a 5G as this has a traditional earpiece speaker.

I've got the Pixel 5 too and I'm experiencing the same problem. I've tried everything also a factory image flash, however it is too low! I live close to a busy road and if I'm going out in the garden it is impossibile to hear someone. I wonder why restrict che max volume level to a so low value since the top speaker when used for media has got more power compared to the call volume. Is it a codec issue? it is an overall Android 11 issue? Google are u doing anything? Pixel 5 is not cheap and we must be threaded as premium users!!! When you are selling something you must respect your customers.

Call volume is very low, i have a lot of conference calls on the phone and need to be able to hear everyone. I find myself mashing the phone into my ear to be able to ear some people better. Never had this issue with any of the other pixel models and i have owned them all. I had a case and a screen protector on the phone and took them off to see if helped with the issue to have the phone naked and it did not help at all.

Has anyone directly from Google about a fix? I'm considering returning the phone after less than 30 days.
