Android 11, MMS messages fail to download
0
After updating my Pixel 3a to Android 11, I can no longer receive MMS messages. I've restarted multiple times, tried with and without automatic retrieval of MMS messages, cleared the cache and the storage. Nothing has worked.

Also having this issue, on a pixel 4 XL. Not sure if you're having similar symptoms, but to provide more detail:

Tried using different texting platform Textra and had similar issue (error message from that app is "cant get MMS: timeout").  Cleared messages app cache, reset all wifi/data settings, still nothing. Some texts come through, others don't. On stock messaging app, it will she that it's downloading a message, but the download never completed and eventually stops and goes to "tap to download" which doesn't work.

I wish I had an answer but I'm dealing with the same issue on my Pixel 3a. It's a relief to know I'm not crazy. Of note, my network is T-mobile but I've had no luck whether on WiFi only, mobile only, 3G, 4G or WiFi calling off/on.

Edit: Before giving up, I turned off mobile data and was able to download all of the messages via WiFi only, it's extremely inconvenient if that's always necessary but it's a work-around for now until we can get an actual solution.

I'm also having trouble sending picture and video through MMS after upgrading my Pixel 3A to Android 11. Worked perfectly with Android 10

I just got mine working. For me, resetting all the network settings was enough to get it working. Hopefully this helps someone else.

I tried the two solutions above, resetting the network settings and turning off mobile data, but neither method worked.

Just like above, I started having issue after update. I have t-mobile and a pixel 3a. I also got the messages after turning off mobile data (airplane mode) but then turning on WiFi. Pain in the butt though.

I don't know about MMS because I always have that turned off, but I was getting very delayed SMS sending and receiving, and if the SMS got stuck during sending , it would send multiple messages once working again.

I am not sure if the messages and phone apps are linked, other than by the carrier services app,
But when I disable "4g calling" in the network settings my SMS goes through quicker and more consistently.

Again I am not 100 percent sure if this is a rather stupid workaround or I am just seeing what I want to see...but I have tried it several times now, when 4g calling is enabled I get more sms sending issues, when it is disabled I get less if any at all.

I don't know about the wifi issues as I don't use wifi at all, well apart from using the phone as the wifi hotspot for my pc, but that works fine

The only solution out there until this gets fixed that I found is to close messages, turn off your sim (wait 5 seconds) and turn it back on. Google you're better than this. Fix this.

Pixel 5 user with sprint originally now T-Mobile

Hope this helps in the mean time guys!
