Pixel 3 XL fingerprint reader issue. Works less than 50% of the time. 1 Recommended Answer 41 Replies 96 Upvotes

After months of consistent flawless operation, the fingerprint reader on my Pixel 3 XL started to have issues. It doesn't recognize my fingers half of the time.
I cleaned the sensor, although it was not dirty at all. I always keep my phone clean.
I deleted all 4 fingers I had set up since day one and created them again. Even while I was creating them again, the phone often would not accept my taps on the reader.

Thanks Mike. Just tried safe mode and the problem still occurs. I'd say it's getting worst even. To the point where I often can't unlock the phone with 5 tries... Really seems like a hardware problem.

I am disappointed that my finger print scanner just stopped working just after 7 months.  For me its a hardware problem.  I may go back to my samsung.

I have this problem also. You (Google) say it's hardware but I'm on my 3rd pixel 3xl due to other problems and every one of them has had this issue. If it's a hardware problem I'd say it's more than one or two phones. Especially if you read how many of us have this same problem. Google please update this thread with what could be happening here.

My first Pixel 3 drop dead by a unknown problem, my second Pixel 3 was working okay from March until last week I updated to Android 10. Now my finger print is not recognized and I am forced to unlock with PIN.

Now I restarted on Safe Mode and it is working, so what? Still not sure if it isn't hardware or software problem.

@Tickmc What should I do?
