Repeating unknown notification sound 0 Recommended Answers 147 Replies 385 Upvotes
I have a recurring notification sound that comes from my phone, sometimes multiple times in succession. It is a descending three note sound. It still continues even when I set the Default Notification sound to "None". The only thing active is an accountability software called Covenant Eyes (VPN), but there are no notification settings for that app. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi Erik,
You might try checking the hidden notification log to see if you can find one that corresponds with when you hear the sound. Do this by long-pressing an empty space on your home screen and then selecting Widgets. Scroll down to the Settings shortcut widget, long-press it and drag it onto your home screen. You'll then be prompted to select what the shortcut should target. Scroll down and select Notification log. You can then tap that icon on the screen to jump straight to a list of every notification generated in the last few hours.
Hopefully that will help you to identify the source of the sound. Please let me know how it goes,

So after a few weeks of using this feature, there is nothing appearing in the notification log whenever the sound happens.

I have been encountering the same problem since 2-3 weeks, it appears randomly with either 1 beat or 2-3 beats randomly
There is no record of it in notification log.
Is there any fix for it, because it's really irritating..

After doing more research and some testing, I think it's the sound the phone makes when initiating an NFC connection. For me, I had my phone on top of a library book. For others, it may be that their phone is near a credit card that supports NFC. I tested this by removing my phone from the book and then placing it back on it. Sure enough, the sound played. I haven't looked into how to disable this sound, but NFC certainly seems to be the issue.

I am facing similar issue with nothing specifically related being shown in the notification log.
It's a constant sound so it becomes slightly irritating hearing it every few seconds while using the phone.

Apparently, Google has no solution to this. They suggest a simple update or factory reset. It seems that they themselves don't know the root cause for this issue.

The sound in my pixel was due to the credit card I kept at the back of my phone case that activated the NFC notification sound.
I turned it off by Setting>Connected Devices>NFC.
Figured I will turn the thing on when it time to use Google Pay.

I'm also having this problem. In my case, it seems that my pixel 4 keeps switching between "USB port disabled, liquid or debris detected" because it thinks there's liquid or debris in it (which it never did, even when there was enough lint and stuff in it that I couldn't get it to charge lol) and "okay to use USB port." This isn't showing up on my notification log, it just kind of pops up and then disappears. I turned off my phone, used my blow dryer on the cool setting to try to dry it/clear it out, and so far so good. Good luck to y'all!
