Type C headphones suddenly stopped working on my Pixel 2 XL

My headphones which previously used to work fine have stopped working all of a sudden. The phone no longer recognizes any pair of headphones as audio device. I tried at least 2 different pairs which used to work previously. Restarting the device didn't work. But, using the device in Safe mode apparently fixed the issue but started the phone in normal mode and the issue reappeared. How to fix this?

Hi, Since I am still linked to this thread, I wanted to report that something upgraded (Android vs the interfering app) and so now my usb c port headphones work again with my pixel xl2.   Don't know what fix made the difference, but it works!

Hi Ahmed. While in Safe Mode only the preinstalled apps will be active. That your headphones worked while in Safe Mode indicates one of the apps you've installed is interfering with the function of your headphones and you will need to isolate the culprit(s) and deal with the it/them accordingly.

You could start by troubleshooting any apps you installed around the time the headphone failure first became apparent but, unfortunately, there is only one quick option to find misbehaving apps and that is to factory reset your 'phone without reinstalling your apps.

Hi M Adair. No apology necessary, frustration is something I understand only too well.

Well I feel that your advice was lazy.  If you had read the posts on this thread:

https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/1663322?hl=en

You would have seen that this suggestion has been recommended and tried to no avail but others.

Why does Google allow threads for the same subject to proliferate all over these forums?  You have threads on this problem with 3 replies, 5 replies, 200+ replies, etc.  These threads should all be consolidated into one but then Google is probably afraid that the problem will look too big and they might actually have to assign a real employee to look into the problem, instead of a volunteer trying to earn points.  Sheeze.

Hi Joe Joe. I'm sorry you feel my response was 'lazy' but it's the only advice I'm able to offer. As for posting for points, you couldn't be more wrong. I'm here as a volunteer because I enjoy helping people but sometimes this is simply not possible.

We volunteers are not responsible for the workings of the forum and, currently, it is not possible for us to duplicate posts as we would wish. Hopefully this is something that will be addressed shortly.

For professional advice I suggest you speak with a Google Support specialist.

Using a pixel 2 XL and starting to face the same issue since yesterday. Have been using the type-C headphones since a month or so. Phone is charging normally via the same type-c port. But the headphones seems not recognizable at all. Status in the headphone settings is still disconnected. Tried using it on safe mode as well. Used a soft brush to clean both ports, to no avail. While it does show headphone settings in Google Assistant, it sets it up and all, but in the end it's still disconnected.

Just had this issue occur with my 3xl. One minute working, next minute YouTube is paused and headphones no longer registering.
Sadly after lots of faff, and swapping cables ect I found that the headphones had just died. Very odd.

Which is even odder as I did a hard restart and they worked for 30 secs then stopped again.
Are headphones under the warranty? More faff needed.

Hi Joshua. Give Google Support a call to enquire about a warranty replacement for your earphones.

I have had the issue with two different pixel 2 xl's. With USB C headphones the device will not consistently recognize the headphones as an audio device. Sometimes it's fine. Other times the phone will stop playing audio every few seconds and think the headphones are a charger or play the audio out of the phone. I'll restart the audio, but seconds later the same thing happens. This repeats over and over. This is on brand new phones and nothing is touching the connection. I have noticed a correlation between this issue and my cell signal and or wifi signal.  It happens on my bus every day in the exact same two locations where cell coverage is spotty and at my house, downstairs where either cell or wifi may be spotty. Is it possible that the phone searching for network connections is causing this? I probably won't wait for the answer. I'll be returning the phone for a second time. There won't be a third as the phone has restarted unexpectedly multiple times and I also can't listen to anything though regular headphones using a dongle. There is such an annoying buzzing over the audio it drives me crazy. Tried multiple headphones with the same result. Besides who wants to use a dongle just to listen to music. No headphone jack? I thought Apple was the only one who made such blatant money grabs under the guise of "design decisions". Great camera, shitty phone. You fucked up Google.

Hi Robby. You will need to continue to liaise with Google Support regarding your USB C headphones as this is a user to user forum staffed primarily by volunteers with no connection to Google. Therefore, if software troubleshooting suggestions are of no help then there is little else we're able to suggest.

Don't ask Google employee if they are woman.... They don't know anything and give you the run around. Ask a man at Google he will help because he knows how to use the ohone
