Pixel 4 XL SIM Card isn't supported 0 Recommended Answers 110 Replies 62 Upvotes

Hi,

I bought a Verizon Pixel 4 XL, who is supposed to be unlocked, but when i put my sim card it doesn't work and i get the message: SIM Card isn't supported..

I talked to Verizon support and they told me that the phone is in fact unlocked and it should work. I tried with 4 different SIM Cards, three from different dominican networks and one from spain(mobistar) and they didn't work.

What can i do?

I have the same problem. I called Google support and they said this is a known issue and they are working on a software fix. However, they have no timeline as to when it will be resolved they say. Completely ridiculous.

Well, I had the same thing.  Bought a new Pixel 4, unlocked.  Put my ATT sim in and it says it isn't supported and I should contact... xfinity?!?!

So I call support.  They do a cross ship for a new phone.  Got the new one, and same thing.  What a POS.  Haven't they tested it?  This is ridiculous.

Man, that sucks, what am i supposed to do? I'm without communication... Google needs to answer for this, or at least, switch our phones for a factory unlocked one...

You may try to set up a Google Voice number which should work over wifi.. I have my old phone still so at least I can use that.

It is a crock.  I can't believe Google would flub this bad on a new phone.

The Verizon model is SIM locked to Verizon for 60 days at which time it should automatically unlock and the phone would then be able to be used on carriers other than Verizon.  The bootloader, on the other hand, will remain locked.

Verizon confirmed, multiple times, that the phone is already unlocked. It's a problem with the phone, just like the others guys that are facing the same issue.

I have this same issue, though my error message says I must contact Xfinity Mobile to have the phone unlocked. I have spent countless hours speaking with Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, and Google and have yet to solve it. Google has sent me two replacement phones in an attempt to fix the issue. I am currently on my third Pixel 4 hoping I won't have to send this one back.

This is a huge black eye for Google. They cannot give a timeline as to when this bug will be fixed? I cannot believe it! I have spoken to several Google support personnel and they all say "meh, sorry for the inconvenience." A total disappointment.

Do keep in mind that if you have purchased a Verizon model Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL it will be SIM locked to Verizon for the first 60 days.  That is not Google's rule, that's Verizon's rule.  Verizon can, should they choose to do so, unlock the SIM, but that is entirely up to Verizon.

The answer is Google was sending locked phones accidentally.  Not sure why.  The 3rd phone I got months ago worked fine.

So it was most likely an error stocking or labeling phones in the warehouse.
