Yesterday, the speaker phone on my Pixel 4 stopped working. At first i thought it was an issue with the phone app or software but then i tested normal apps like tidal and play music. No sound was coming from the bottom of my phone. Anyone else have this issue?

Can you reboot into safe mode to see if the speaker works there

Same thing happened to me. Sound can be garbled too.

I did a factory reset and still have problems.

Same issue with Pixel 4. Bottom speaker stopped working. This is affecting:

a) calls with regular audio setting
b) calls with speaker function on
c) videocalls on Whatsapp and Facebook messenger app
d) alarms
e) message notifications

I've tried safe mode, cache cleaning and factory settings reset. Nothing has worked. Looks like it's a hardware issue.

Google's solution: you pay full price for a new device that is defective or a refurbished device. Is this really Google's philosophy?

Same issue here. I went through 4 supervisors. Google doesn't care, if you have a phone more than 15 days old. You get a refurbished phone ( aka, someone else's issue phone. It really sucks. I can confirm factory reset results in the same. I would all monitor the issue, might be the pioneers of a class action lawsuit.

I can tell you one thing I learned, buy from a store like Amazon or Target, or Walmart. A company that knows the value of a customer.

If there is issues with the next phone I'll switch to another hardware manufacturer. Done with company that doesn't care.

Bottom speaker stopped working.
Does software update will resolve an issue?

Same bottom speaker not working for speaker phone ringing or notification. Any fixes ?

Same issue here. Tried support chat and was "guaranteed" that the issue would be fixed with a factory reset. It wasn't.

Same issue with Pixel 4 as well.. speaker doesn't work while on call..

Similar issue on my Pixel 4, my bottom speaker sounds blown. The issue started during a voice call.  I'm using this phone no differently than my Pixel 2, which never had this issue over two years of ownership.

My bottom speaker started making a crackling sound intermittently yesterday and now has completely stopped working. Did a factory reset but still have the issue. I'll contact Google although by the previews comments I don't have high hopes. Perfect phone till yesterday..(sigh)

I have the same issue and here were my options:
1. send it in to google to be fixed under the warranty of the phone
2. take it to ubreakifix because they are partnered with Google and since it is under warranty and a hardware issue, it will not cost.

My phone is about 2 months old and it was made clear it is under warranty for a year from purchase and I also have proof in an email of this.  Tomorrow I am taking it in, hopefully it is fixed.

Just happened to my pixel 4 today which I have since launch. So there is no help from Google.?
Started off with strange sounds and muffled notification tones then boom. Dead.

Same issue.
Ringer and  speaker phone suddenly stopped working.
Alarms don't work. Video calls don't work.
Getting the same problems in safe mode.
I've already ordered a Samsung replacement because I need a phone. However I like my Pixel and I'm still hoping there's a solution.

Wish i had seen this post before buying my pixel 4. My speaker jsut stopped working. Took it to the ubreakifix dealer who replaced the speaker and it still didnt work. Now, having to mail in the phone for  the refurbished replacement. They refuse to ship me a replacement without sending over my phone. I need my phone for my work but they dont care. Now have to be without my phone for the 5-10 business days for the 'refurbished' replacement.
To think i paid full price for my brand new pixel 4 a month and a half back :/ I bought this from BestBuy. (They said they could have send me a replacement  without me sending them my broke phone if i had bought directly from the store instead of BestBuy.)

Same issue on Pixel 4 here. Heard this weird crackling sound and the bottom speaker just stopped working few seconds after that. I haven't been able to hear any alarms, notification sounds, calls with speaker function on. The phone is only a couple of months old. It's pretty frustrating.

Same issue here at the TMobile store and want to give me a refurb for my wife's phone. Absolutely terrible.

My brand new pixel 4 has this same issue. Factory reset has not fixed it.

Don't try factory reset. It's not working.
I made wrong choice when bought this phone :((

Same issue. Bottom speaker suddenly stopped working. No matter what I do, can't get it to work.

Mine is a hardware issue! If I squeeze, twist or tap the bottom of the phone you can hear it for a moment. Mine started sounding weird before it went out.
I think it's a bad solder joint!  Can you say warranty!

This has happened to me as well. This is my second pixel 4, my first was sent back in because the screen shattered on a fall (totally my fault). Now this phone no longer has the bottom speaker work. I do see that this fix is under warranty which is nice, but I now have to take time out of my day to deal with it. Come on Google, you're better than this.

Just happened to me yesterday while on a video call with someone, my sound dropped extremely low and started popping and crackling. If I go into Google Music and play anything, it sounds fine, but tinny because it's *only* coming from the top speakers and no longer the bottom. I have device protection under my phone contract so I'll take it back to them and get a new one

The bottom speaker stopped working today after two weeks for me also and of course I can't send it to warranty as it was bought on the black market.

Pretty disappointed as it was a really hard decision to switch to android.

Exact same thing started happening to me today. No notification sound, no ringing sound, no sound from the speakerphone.

I got the same issue since a few days with my Google Pixel 4. I can't use the bottom speakers during standard calls anymore or even hear the ringing. With WhatsApp it is working fine

It's the same here.  My phone's speaker suddenly stopped working.  The speaker for audio streaming (songs) works.  The speaker related to voice calls, phone rings, alarms, message notifications, stopped working.  My phone is only 20 days old.  Factory reset also didn't work.  I've had the same issue with Pixel xl too.  This is ridiculous.

EVERYONE PLEASE READ AND SHARE.

I spoke to google was told I'd get a replacement. Two weeks later after several emails I get this BS. this is just not on at all.
marked this as an answer
The same thing just started with my Pixel 4. It seems to be just the bottom speaker. It's affecting speakerphone, alarms, notifications, and Duo audio. I hope there's a fix action soon.
marked this as an answer
Same issue as well.  Ubreakifix said they can repair under warranty. Google was absolutely no help at all.
marked this as an answer
So hey guys, I've seen it can be fixed under warranty. But i want to say, I believe the issue is due to the ability to press the sides of the phone. When I pressed it and tested it, my phone worked, crackled, turned off. And turned on, and off. and yeah. I believe something there is affecting the sound unit at the bottom.

At first my alarm didn't sound. So I tried a bunch of different things. Then I contacted Google. Troubleshooted everything I did already besides a factory reset. realized it'd take too long. Then realized it was my speakerphone too and my notifications. Sometimes they'd come in fuzzy. After reset, it's the same. So with the fix, I won't be squeezing my phone but keeping it as it's a good one and hopefully there's some sort of compensation for the issues later since that seems to be a serious issue if it's what I think it is.

Since I got my Google Pixel 4 in November the audio has been hit or miss, suddenly cutting out during calls. As of Thursday the speaker for calls has quit working completely. I've done the troubleshooting, the updates, the restarts and reset. I got this phone because I LOVED Google phones and never had an issue and am beyond disappointed with the quality of this one and considering the money we paid for these paperweights Google should be doing the right thing by us.
marked this as an answer
Ditto. I am on my second pixel 4 with the exact same issue. I actually wonder if they just did a factory reset on my device then sent me back the same phone? Idk. But both of them worked fine for a few weeks and then stopped working. The crackling/garbleness goes in and out when listening to music but the audio is always super quiet on speaker phone or video call. So frustrating.
marked this as an answer
I got mine to work again. Sound ridiculous but you need to blow really hard into the bottom speaker. Keep doing it till it works.
marked this as an answer
UBreakIFix fixed it for me under warranty (without any cost) in 2 hours' time.  It's better to have your own phone repaired than getting a refurbished one from Google.

I'm having the same problem. Is there a warranty repair available? I just got this thing 2 weeks ago

I had this same issue with my Pixel 4. After factory reset and everything it still didn't work, so I accepted an exchange. I fought to receive a new phone and not a refurbished one (why am I paying for a new phone and getting a refurb??) but no luck. I was assured a refurbished phone would have no issues. 2 weeks later and this one had the same exact problem. I call back and tell them I just want to return this phone and I'm told I can't return, I can only exchange now. This is honestly the shittiest customer service I have ever received. They know the phone is trash and yet they are just going to force me to keep exchanging for new ones. So ridiculous and I can confirm I am never buying a Pixel again.

"the bottom speaker of pixel 4 didn't work after some crack voice some days before. and not it completely didn't work.  I cannot use phone speaker , alarm ,notication etc."

Exactly the same symptoms as many of you mentioned. And now fighting through the absolutely terrible customer service ever experienced in recent years. Just got this for 2 months, I would like to have a new one as replacement.
This seems obviously a hardware defect. Remember for Nintendo Switch, they had a joy con drifting issue and they finally came out and acknowledged it. Google needs to recall all these crappy products they shipped.

Anyone considering class action against them?

It happened to me today . Bottom speakers not working no voice for incoming calls and speaker not working when in call with others. Any fix for this?
marked this as an answer
Same happened with me and my wife's phone.. started with cracking audio and now no audio o/p  for incoming call rings / calls placed on speaker. They forced me to do a factory reset - a painful process of backing stuff,  reinstalling apps... before accepting its a problem, and are now sending a refurbished phone.

There should be some way to get this big corporation compensate for selling defective units

Same problem with wife's Pixel 4. Lasted just one month.

It just started happening last week.Is it a hardware or software issue?
marked this as an answer
Same this happened to my pixel 4. Speakers at the bottom stopped working and Google customer care just say they can send refurbished phone. Never buy a pixel. It just last for a couple of months. Apple customer care used to give new phone if it's a company fault. Google is classifying this as normal wear and tear and use the warranty. Is there an option to file a suit or escalate this to higher authorities of the company. This is big defect in Google pixel
marked this as an answer
Same happened to my new Pixel 4. The alarm didn't make a sound and I was late to work this morning. Spend 2+ hours on the phone w google agents and supervisors. Also insisted to send me a replacement  refurbished phone, offered only $15 Google Play credit and overall had a terrible customer service attitude.
This is outrageous! Can't believe I switched from iPhone to this lame google phone.

Same here. Alarm and phone don't ring. Spent an hour with support and they said that it's a software issue and engineers are working on it. Gave $15 play store credit. No talk of replacement. Very disappointed.

I have a problem with my new pixel 4 (2 months).
Since 3 days (and suddenly) I have no external sound coming from my phone.
I have checked all the parameters and I am on loud mode. I am not connected to Bluetooth.
Despite the phone doesn't ring anymore - not for calls / notifications / or when it is on speakers.
Any idea?
Thanks!!

Same issue bottom speaker not working so not ringing it's a big issue, Google please fix it iam missing most of the calls and notification.

Same issue and it sounds like Google isn't doing a thing about it. I completely regret my purchase. Never again.
marked this as an answer
Same issue for me which started this weekend, bottom speaker was crackly for a day or so and then stopped working altogether.  No alarms/ringtones/notifications since those all go through the bottom speaker, if I use a Bluetooth speaker they all work through that though.  Google support told me they believed it was a software issue and to wait for an update.

I definitely thought it was a hardware problem rather than a software issue, though seeing that a bunch of people have all had this problem start in the last few days seems a bit fishy.  Has anyone had this problem start since 1/24/20 and had it successfully repaired by uBreakiFix?  Wondering if it's worth bringing it to them for repair, or if it truly is something software-related.
marked this as an answer
Same issue happened today.  No help from Google.  Getting a refurbished phone from them.  Probably won't buy pixel again due to this epic fail.  Had Moto for years and no problems.
marked this as an answer
Can we trust Google that their replacement refurbished phones are not used phones?
I am not sure what's better, to get a refurbished phone from Google or let UbreakIfix to take a shot at fixing it. Can you tell if it's a hardware or a software issue Google would be able to repair remotely with a software update
marked this as an answer
Just wanted to let others know that even though Google support claimed it was a software issue and to wait for an update to fix it, I took my phone in to the local uBreakiFix for repair and they confirmed it was definitely a HARDWARE issue and needed to replace the speaker itself.

Got the speaker replaced under warranty, and now the bottom speaker is working correctly again.  We did NOT need to do a factory reset or change anything, nothing was done to software during this fix, the speaker itself was faulty and needed to be replaced.

It's odd that it's happening to many people all around the same time, but maybe all of our devices were manufactured in the same batch with faulty components, which are all failing after the same amount of time. I'd encourage anyone with the same issue to not wait around for a software fix, and to instead get it repaired, since this is most definitely hardware related.

same thing is happening to me. tried everything

Ubreakfix told me that it's better to get a replacement from Google and there is no guarantee of the fix ubreakifix is  gonna do will solve the issue. Is there a way to identify if the replacement phone Google is sending is refurbished or not?
marked this as an answer
Didn't trust the "refurbished" option Google suggested and took my pixel 4 to UbreakIfix (should change to it-broke-i-fix). They said it's an easy fix, just replaced my bottom speaker with one that works. Everything is back to normal for now. I hope it would last.
Google only gave me $15 Play credit which is annoying bc I don't use it anyway and I wasted a whole day troubleshooting/calling customer service/going to fix the phone. Since it's a brand new phone and my day is worth a little more than $15 fake money, I give Google 'Fail' on the way they (didn't) take care of this issue.
marked this as an answer
Just fyi! I got pixel4! If somebody experiencing speaker not working while on call..and no audio notifications unfortunately, there's no solution YET! Other than, get a refurbished (which is for Verizon phones that are returned within 30 days of purchase).

Same issue here. Getting my second replacement already in just 90d and I am gentle with phones. Don't mind the battery, do mind a new phone every 45d.

I'm having the same issue!

Same issue for me. Plus when I use speaker phone, other people can not hear me clearly! Will there be a patch update for this?
marked this as an answer
Same thing is happening to me. Speakers are garbled/muffled with system sounds (alarm, messaging alerts etc), but plays music on Google Play at full volume. Factory reset didn't help. Update didn't help.
marked this as an answer
@A Warriner does music play full volume out of only the top speaker/earpiece, or out of the bottom speaker as well?  If it's only coming out of the top earpiece, then the bottom speaker hardware is shot and you'll need to get it repaired/replaced.  Apparently some Pixel 3 and Pixel 3As had issues with speakers failing as well, and it sounds like the Pixel 4 is having the same issue.
marked this as an answer
Same exact thing with me. tried all the above fixes including a factory reset and still nothing. So now I have to download all my goddamn apps again. And deal with all that b******* in the problem still isn't fixed. Also can't get rid of that astric thing When you're using voice Even if you turn off the offensive word blocker.
marked this as an answer
So I used a blow dryer on my bottom speaker because someone recommended blowing in it like an old school Nintendo cart. It did make the bottom speaker start to make noise but just a cracking sound. If you have this issue and already reset your phone it's a blown bottom speaker. Hopefully Verizon replaces with a new device for me.
marked this as an answer
Matt: Sound does come out of the bottom speaker, just crackly, bit clear.
Salim: Thanks for the info! UBreakiFix gave me a quote on hdw replacement and no guarantee it'd work. Google support offered to replace the phone (refurb).

This will be the end of the line with my Pixel "experiment". I've had a 3, 3aXL, and now a 4. They all crapped out in one way or another, costing me time and business.

I know that it doesn't work..I have been using pixel devices from day one. End of day Google doesn't give a dam. They've lost a good customer due their attitude as seen in my tweet conversation.
marked this as an answer
Well Google support told me to wait so. I did now they want a bug report which I sent I told them it's a hardware problem, but they don't listen.
marked this as an answer
@Jim just contact support, they will help you.

@John follow their instructions and they will send you a replacement once they confirm it's a hardware problem.
marked this as an answer
The biggest problem is that Google support refuses to admit that it's a hardware problem.  I had previously contacted support and talked to two different representatives, and they would not authorize a replacement and insisted it was likely software, and to wait a month or so to see if a future software patch did anything.

I had to actually go to uBreakiFix, and the technician there confirmed it was hardware, and got Google to authorize a repair under warranty for faulty hardware.  It's unfortunate that Google's own support isn't more helpful with this, and I had to visit a repair shop and have the technician confirm it before Google would authorize anything.

It's especially troubling that Google support is still telling other users to wait for a software fix, after the repair shops have been confirming with Google that this is indeed a hardware fault that is successfully fixed with a hardware repair, and has nothing at all to do with software.
