Voicemail icon persists even when cleared 1 Recommended Answer 30 Replies 30 Upvotes

On U.S. Verizon network: as of last week the new voicemail icon appears even if I have zero new voicemails. To clear it, I have to check my v.m.,  then open the Phone App and clear the storage manually, but the icon  reappears again and I have to go through the process all over a few times a day. ( not using Visual Voicemail, just regular) Could this be related to any security updates or because I went to Europe in January and that changed something? How best to report this issue?

Hello and welcome to the community,
The first thing I suggest is to try clearing the cache for your phone app.  Tap and hold on the phone app, tap the i, tap storage, and tap clear cache.  If that doesn't help we can try a couple of other things.

If you read my post you would have seen that your suggestion is what I do now to clear the notification (manually clear storage in settings>apps. I want a permanent solution. I shouldn't have to check my vm several times a day to confirm that the notification is erroneous. I've had this Pixel 3 since October and this problem just started recently, although I've noticed it with other Android phones I've had over the years.

If carrier services is in your list of apps try clearing the storage for it too.

Hi clearing the cache and storage (in the phone app and in carrier services) only works temporarily. I live in NYC and when I exit the train and my phone connects with the cell tower, the notification returns.

I read that someone uninstalled the updates and then reinstalled. This worked for me so far.
