Hi All,

What Happened:
Updated my Pixel XL (Gen 1) with Android 10 software on 20th Sept 2019.
Directly after the update the phone did turn on but it reset itself 3 times when I went to use it.
I left it overnight on the charger and when I woke the phone was completely dead.

Symptoms:
Phone will not power up.
No battery low indication when phone turned on or in charger (Screen completely black).

What I have tried:
- Every button press configuration (power, power+volume, all buttons) - (no change)
- Different charger/cables (no change)
- Connected phone to computer. Computer gave the sound like a device was connected but could not see phone in windows explorer and still did not get any indication on the phone.

Questions:
- Has the software bricked the phone?
- Has the software stopped me from charging the phone?
- Am I supposed to just accept that after the Android 10 update my phone is now dead and I need a new one? This is completely unacceptable.

If other Pixel XL (gen 1) users that haven't updated to Android 10 yet, then I would be very careful. I waited 17 days before updating and still had issues with some sort of bug.

Can the Google Pixel team please register this as an issue and help the community to resolve.

Thank you,
Margaret

I also submitted a Google Support phone call request.
Received the automated call, stayed by the phone for 2hrs 8mins before an automated message disconnected the call.

Hi Margaret,

My Pixel 1 XL updated to Android 10 without a hitch.

Updating can be particularly CPU intensive and  the heat generated could trigger a pre-existing hardware issue, perhaps.

You might need to reach out to your nearest authorised out-of-warranty repair service for repair advice.

Update:

Sent phone to the authorised out of warranty repair company. I was advised the motherboard on the phone had failed and would need to be replaced.

Very disappointed in this failure especially when you do some research and find that multiple first gen pixel owners experienced the same failure.

So I just had the same thing happen to me, I have been running Android 10 for a few weeks with no issue. 2 days ago I wake up to this same exact thing. Was the motherboard really the issue?

Ever since my phone updated to Android 10, my Pixel XL would often freeze for 15-20 seconds at a time and then start working again. Today my phone froze again, eventually went to a black screen and will not respond whatsoever anymore. No combination of the holding the power button and volume buttons have any kind of reaction. This is pretty upsetting that it looks like the phone is bricked for absolutely no reason.

This happened to my Google Pixel 3 XL after the Android 10 update, as well. Crazy battery drain, freezing last night, and now today won't indicate charging and won't power back on. Can't really find a lot of info on it either which is pretty frustrating.

I have same issue with my pixel. Updated it to android 10 and ever since started having rapid battery drain. Worked like that for 6-7 days and then went dead. Wont power up and show no sign of charge either. Gave for service today and they said premil it looks like motherboard is gone. Really frustrating. I dont see as an normal malfunctiom, when so many are complaining of same outcome.

So given this is happening to many of us after all updating to Android 10 I think it's a software boot issue, the thing to try now is a reflash of the update to our phones. Note a reflash will not delete the data on the phone but be sure to state that you want to keep your data just in case. I have yet to try this as I haven't been able to find a place that can do it as the place near me doesn't have the software from Google. If that doesn't work then maybe a full data delete reset might. If anyone has the ability to do this please let us know, and Google if you are reading this please help us out since it looks like your update caused this.

Also I would like to state that I have seen a common thing Cause this and it be when the phone battery runs out, I would say don't let that happen.

I bought my google pixel xl 2 years ago. It had worked perfectly until it updated to Android 10. It started to work incorrectly, to reload, battery started to discharge very fast + on the coldness turned off with 30% of charge. Today I woke up and it does not turn on anymore. I did factory resert but it didn't help. Does this mean that Android update killed my phone? As I see it is a common problem here, so we all suffered because of new Android update, GOOGLE please take action on it!!!
