About a week after updating to Android 10, my pixel 2 xl suddenly stopped charging with fast charging, but then after a few days it fixed itself. It is now charging but Android auto and file transfer aren't working. I don't get the charging via USB notification, and I have USB debugging enabled and have set the default USB configuration to file transfer/Android auto. I'm not sure why it's not working, and I'm very sure it's not a hardware issue with the USB port.

Hello and welcome,

My first suggestion is to try cleaning out your USB C port with something non conductive such as a toothpick.  Build up of debris can cause bad connections or keep the cable from seating properly.

I have tried cleaning out the USB port with compressed air. It seems clean enough to work.

Sometimes lint can get compacted down in there and has to be physically removed by digging it out with something.  If you shine a bright light in there and it looks clean you obviously have a different issue.  Have you tried safe mode to see if you still have the same problems?  You can hold the power button then tap and hold power off to reboot in safe mode.

The port still seems pretty clean of lint, and it's working for charging just not file transfer, so I don't think it is a hardware issue. I just tried connecting my phone in safe mode and I still didn't get the charging via USB notification.

I have this exact issue. After a lengthy discussion with support, the tech agreed it was too much of a coincidence to suffer a hardware failure at the exact same time as the update. Charging works fine, USB data is broken. Even in fastboot mode. The change log for Android 10 has a couple of entries for USB, but I'm not quite code-savvy enough to say whether those are the culprit. In any case, really need this fixed since I can't even flash android 9 without USB in fastboot.

I have this issue as well since updating to Android 10. I'm using a Pixel 2xl. I can confirm that it's not port issues as mine is clean. I have also ran adb commands which have all been successful. My computer also recognizes the Pixel 2xl but says to "enable MTG" which I assume is "File Transfer/Android Auto". This does not fix the issue.

I''m running Kubnutu 19.04 as opposed to the Windows 10.

Hi everyone i'm facing this problem since july now, the issue is that the pixel 3 usb-c port works only with charge and nothing else, that means it doesn't work with pixel buds, doesn't work with other headphones with jack adapter, no OTG devices work, and PC connection wont work either.
I've tried everything possible from cleaning the port to factory resetting the phone, with no results.
So i've tried to RMA from google but even if i have still warranty, i should have paid 106€ cause my back glass cover is broken. Since i didn't want to pay that much to fix the back i bought the usb-c port replacement and i fixed it myself, i thought it would have fix it but surprisingly it didn't and i have still the same issue so working charge but no any other usb-c connection.
Android 11 with last october patch didn't solved it either, still the same: usb preferences greyed out when connecting to a PC ( tried different PC: Windows 10, Windows 7 and even Linux) same result.
At this far i'm pretty sure it's a software related issue since the replacement didn't fixed it.
I have more evidences which lead to this point, a few days ago i tried to connect my Pixel C to the laptop to transfer some files and it is suddenly showing the same problem of the Pixel 3, i have to state that the Pixel C was running an Android 9 ROM so it fits perfectly in all the reported issues about it precisely that the problem pops out since Android 9 and there seems not to be any fix for this even in the last Android 11 patch.
