Got a new 3a XL and inserted a new SIM from Three. All fine, but then my old number was transferred from my old carrier to Three. I can now send and receive calls, texts etc on my old number, on my new phone, so all good?

No!  For some reason the original number that came with the Three SIM is still recorded in the phone settings, and I can't edit it. The problem this creates is that any apps or websites that require verification seem to pick up the number automatically from the phone settings.

Anyone any idea how to fix?

Hello Steve Holliday,

Welcome to the Google Pixel Community forum.

Go to > Settings > Apps & notifications > See all >  Phone > Storage and clear Cache and Storage.  Restart your phone.

Thank you, but this didn't help. In 'About Phone' it still shows the original number of the SIM, not the new (transferred) number.

Hello Steve Holliday,

As the problem persists, then the next step would be a factory reset to see if that eliminates the problem.

I suspect a full factory reset will do the trick, but I was hoping to avoid doing that and the resulting wasted hours reloading and signing in to all the apps.

Steve,

Sometimes a factory reset is the only option.  I would set the phone up as new, rather than restoring a backup that might reinstitute the problem.  Most of your apps will likely automatically reload, and the remainder can be easily found and reinstalled from "My apps" on the Play Store.  Photos and Contacts should auto download.

David,

As the issue still persists after performing a factory data reset, I suggest you reach out to Google's 1:1 Support for further assistance. They'd be able to have a closer look into the issue and assist you accordingly.

David,

Try removing the SIM card first, then do a factory reset with no SIM installed.  Do not install the SIM until you're ready to activate the phone on your carrier.  (Use WiFi during set-up.)  Do not restore a backup, just set the phone up as new.  As long as you use the same account number, your photos, contacts, etc., should automatically be restored from the cloud.

I have a Pixel 3a XL and am having exactly the same problem . My SMS are showing as my new phone number and not my old one I transferred over. Has anyone been able to resolve this yet ?
Have contacted my network provider who have not been able to help.
