Pixel 2 xl speaker distortion

Am I the only one hearing really bad distortion on the bottom speaker of the pixel 2 xl? Seems like no one else has this problem, but my first device, my replacement device and my friends pixel 2 xl has the same distortion. Does no one else hear it?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the Pixel User Community.

As you're experiencing distortion sound from the speaker of your Pixel 2 XL, check if you experience this issue when you reboot it in safe mode. If the issue isn't occurring in safe mode, I recommend uninstalling the third party apps from your Pixel 2 XL. If in case you experience this issue in safe mode as well, I suggest initiating the factory reset.

Important : A factory data reset will remove all data from your device. While any data stored in your Google Account will be restored, all apps and their associated data will be uninstalled. Before you perform a factory data reset, look over the options for backing up and restoring your data on your Pixel.

You can also have your friends to perform these steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

No this does not work. I had it on my first pixel 2 xl, my new replacement pixel 2 xl, and my friends pixel 2 xl. I also see quite a few other people having this issue. I think Google should look into this and see whether they can fix it with an update or if it is a hardware issue.

My bottom speaker is distorting on certain kind of music. Thinking of getting it replaced but there is not point if it is happening on all the devices. Google, please help.

I am experiencing the same issue, Also when making calls I hear distortion in the top speaker. I just switched from iPhone to Pixel 2 xl and I love the software but I'm becoming more and more disappointed in their hardware choices.
This speaker fuzz makes the call quality feel cheap. The mic transmits feedback sometimes when making calls. When I used my iphone I couldnt tell if someone was inside or outside as the mic picked up the voice only.

I have the same issue where the bottom speaker rattles while putting it on speaker kode above 70%.i spoke yo google support but they are big assholes.they suggested to handover the phone to b2x who will open the device to check if its a hardware issue...i am not allowing to open the device as they opened the device the last time and totally spoilt my pixel xl phone.
Google is a big cheater where it comes to replacement.its the customer who will decide if its a hardware issue not jot google.
What is the guarantee that google says its not hardware issue after opening the bloody phone.
Its really sad disappointing to get this kind of customer service from a company like google
They dont care about peoples hard earned money.

Please let us know the escalation point so that these can be escalated.
Factory reset n booting in safe mode didnot help for me atleast

You are correct it is a hardware problem and it is due to the speaker grills.  The solution actually is pretty simple and it fixed 90% + of the problem if not all for me while keeping the original look and not sacrificing waterproofing/dustproofing.  Just get a hair dryer or heat gun gently heat the speaker grill for a bit then use a tooth pick with the tip flattened  or anything similar.  Gently put pressure on the speaker grill but don't press it in then gently slide it to the left/right or up and down this part is trial and error.  Move it a bit then test again to see if you hear the distortion/buzzing.  Took me a whole 3-4 minutes of moving the grill around but it eliminated the problem completely for me and the phone looks brand new still.  Good luck!
