Pixel (2016) will not charge after Android 9 September Security Update

I updated today my Pixel to 9.0.0 (PPR2.180905.006, Sep 2018) (September Security Update) and I can't charge it using original charger + original USB type C cable.

My first try:

Maybe my usb cable is broken. So, I use another USB cable + original Pixel charger and my Pixel is charging slowly. Maybe, because this not official USB cable has no support to work with non-Power Delivery (PD) charger (my guess).

My second try:

I used my original Pixel USB cable to charge my Google Nexus 5X and its original charger. It worked as expected. Thus, my original Pixel USB cable wasn't broken.

So, I can conclude that:

- My original Pixel charger is working properly
- My original Pixel USB cable is working properly

- September Security Update broken my Pixel and I can't today charge my phone using original cable + original charger. I have to use not official USB cable to charger slowly.

Google, come on! How do you expected to sell new phones?

Some there need to do more tests before release new updates.

Are you able to charge when booting into safe mode?

Hi, No, I can't.

It is not possible to charging even when phone is off.

Yesterday everything was working properly before that software update. Nothing changed except phone software.

I can do downgrade to confirm it, but I don't want to.

Cheers,

Can anyone offer an update on the Android 9 fast charging issue with Pixel XL?  I've rejected the Android 9 update over and over waiting for a resolution.  I thought it might come out with the September security update but it didn't.

Have had exactly the same problem with Pixel XL after Sept. 5 update.  After a normal day of use (where I would typically still be at about 30 or 40% battery), I got a 15% warning yesterday afternoon and then within minutes the battery drained completely and phone shut off.  I tried multiple chargers and tried safe mode without any success.  After being plugged in all night the phone only charged to about 20% and then starting dropping quickly again.  Just tried a factory reset and waiting to see if it will charge normally again.

Same here. Using original Pixel charger + non official USB cable after being plugged in all night only charged to 55%.

I can't charge my phone anymore. It is unacceptable.

My workaround : I'm charging my phone using non official USB cable + my macbook PRO

Update: after factory reset it still won't charge above 30%

Clark, could you do a downgrade? I mean, you already lost everything with a factory reset, so a downgrade will not be a problem for you.

PS: Using a non official USB cable + my macbook PRO I get fast charging.

After a few false starts the phone did a full charge last night and so far today seems back to normal.

Problem has gotten worse since October software update. A factory reset seems to have fixed the problem for me after the September update, but then it started all over again this week after the October update.  Battery level instantly dropped from >50% to 0% yesterday and shut itself down -- see attached.  Since then it only charges up to a ceiling (18%) and then rapidly discharges even when plugged into charger.  This makes the phone unusable.  Before the Sept. software update the battery life and power management were the best of any phone I have ever owned.
