Check or change app settings

You can see information about, and change settings for, the apps on your Android phone or tablet.

Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 8.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Change app settings

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications and then See all apps. (If you don't see "See all apps," tap App info.)
  3. Tap an app.
  4. To edit a setting, tap it. Available settings vary by app.

Change app permissions, defaults, and preferences

Change app permissions and defaults

Instead of checking each app one-by-one, you can see a list of apps that have a certain setting. For example, you can see which apps have permission to view your Calendar.

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications.
  3. To edit a setting, tap it. Available settings vary by device and Android version.
See system apps
  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications and then See all apps. (If you don't see "See all apps," tap App info.)
  3. Tap More More and then Show system.
Reset app preferences

To reset all your app settings at once:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Apps & notifications and then See all apps. (If you don't see "See all apps," tap App info.)
  3. Tap More More and then Reset app preferences.
