About Pixel Drops
Pixel phones receive regular software updates that include new features, security enhancements, operating system updates, bug fixes, and more.
Updates roll out gradually, and are dependent on carrier and device. It may take a few weeks for the update to arrive on your device. You'll get a notification once the update is ready to install. To manually check your phone for updates:
- Open your device's Settings app.
- Tap System
Software update.
You'll find your update status. Follow any steps on the screen.

How long you'll get Pixel updates
Pixel 8 and later phones
Pixel 8 and later phones will get updates for 7 years starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US. Learn more about when your device became available.
This includes 7 years of OS and security updates, and may also include new and upgraded features with Pixel Drops.
