Tap & pay with your device

On certain phones, you can use Tap & pay for purchases at merchants that accept contactless payments.

Note: Some of these steps work only on Android 9 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.

Turn on NFC (Near Field Communication)

Important: If you don't see the NFC setting, your phone doesn't have NFC. You won't be able to tap & pay.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices And then Connection preferences.
  3. Turn on NFC.

Manage apps that use Tap & pay

  1. Open the app you want to use Tap & pay on.
  2. Make sure Tap & pay is turned on.
  3. Open your phone's Settings app.
  4. Tap Apps & notifications And then Advanced And then Default apps
  5. Tap Tap & pay And then Payment default.
  6. Pick your default payment app.

Tip: To show in Settings, your payment apps must work with Tap & pay. Money transfer apps don't work with Tap & pay. You can find payment apps on Google Play or in the Play Store app Google Play.

Turn off Tap & pay

Important: Turning off NFC also turns off other features that use NFC.

  1. Open your phone's Settings app.
  2. Tap Connected devices And then Connection preferences.
  3. Turn off NFC
Tip: You can also open your payment app and turn off Tap & pay. Not all payment apps support this option.
