What you need
To have a conversation with Google Assistant, you need a Pixel 4 and later, including Fold, with:
- New Google Assistant.
- Assistant language set to English.
- The language setting applies if you're from: the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or Singapore.
Turn on Continued Conversation
Important: Continued Conversation only applies to your current device. Learn about conversations on speaker or Smart Display.
- Say "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
- Under "All settings" tap Continued Conversation.
- Turn on Continued Conversation.
Have a conversation
- On your phone, say "Hey Google" and ask your question or say a command.
- Listen to the answer.
- To continue the conversation, ask another question or say a command.
End the conversation
To end a conversation, do one of the following:
- Say:
- "Thank you."
- "Thanks, Google."
- "I'm done."
- At the bottom of the screen, tap the Assistant glow.
- Over a response card, swipe down.
- Set your phone down.
How Google Assistant knows the conversation is continuing
When Continued Conversation is on, Google Assistant listens for follow-up questions for about 10 seconds. It uses voice and sensor signals, like speech, gyroscope, acceleration, and rotation sensors to detect if you're continuing the conversation or not.
Sensor signals are processed on your device. If we detect that the conversation is continuing, audio might be sent to Google servers to give you a response. Go to My Activity to find what data is saved.
