Hey everyone! I've struggled with this issue for over a year, but I've finally found a perfect solution to stop the automatic screenshot uploads.

I wrote a post that guides you through setting it up: https://medium.com/@levihassel/stop-google-photos-from-automatically-uploading-screenshots-on-android-4d53dc5809ec

I hope this approach can help others that are as annoyed with this issue as me! :)

Billy,

Good afternoon.

You can disable the automatic backup of any folder on your Android device. Open the Google Photos app and tap on the hamburger icon at the top left corner to open the sidebar menu. From there, tap Device Folders to see all of the folders on your phone that contain pictures or videos.

Find your Screenshot folder in the list and tap on it to view the images. At the top of the screen, above the picture thumbnails, you'll see a gray bar that says "Backup & sync" with a toggle switch on the right. Tap that toggle switch to turn it off. From that point on, none of your screenshots will be automatically uploaded to Google Photos.

+1 to the solution of the member:
***This has been tested before posting! **

This seems to be the only solution working...tried so many things but finally have my piece of mind. Of course, i had to buy the app (4,59€) in order to also not sync my facebook images.

So sad that even though I bought a 1000€ smartphone, it lacks "not-so-smart" features like this simple one.

I have a Samsung S10E and however this did not fix it for me using (One Drive )but I was blaming Microsoft for this when in fact ot was due to Samsung...the biggest problem with Google Andriod your OS is fragmented all over the place a bit like Windows..

As of today, our problem still and will continue persist as long as the screenshots or any photos are being directed to a folder inside DCIM which Google Photos considers only as "camera". Either the manufacturer or google photos has to make a move. It's really a burden to not use this technology for what are made for.

It is a joke Google. Will you dispatch a fix on this ridiculously small error which makes our life miserable?

It's so ridiculous that Google hasn't implemented a proper solution to this.

It's a goddamn simple fix, just let us choose exactly choose which folder we want to backup, instead of assuming the DCIM folder contains only Camera photos.

I don't blame the devs, like always it's managers/execs who are the idiots here.

This inconvenience from the Google Photos is just so frustrating, and as a Google One subscriber, it makes me kind of sad to know that Google hasn't fixed this hey.

please solve it asap.

Still no resolution. Are you telling me no one at Google actually understands what is happing here? Pic any phone with OneUI and see.

I think google should add customisation for dcim folder to ignore other folders like screenshots,
Please consider this enhancement for google photos

Cant believe this is still happening after all this time!

Nevertheless, it appears the only solution is to let all your screenshots build up until ready to remove them.

Once you are ready to delete all screenshots from google photos, move the Screenshots folder from within the android DCIM folder to another folder location (e.g. pictures).

Now, go back to google photos, ignore the new folder detected prompts, and click albums.  You will see an album called screenshots (providing you only have this one).  Simply delete this from google photos.

Due to the save location of future screenshots, another screenshots folder will be created within DCIM folder.  So this will need repeating after a period of time.

Manually move the screenshots you want to save into DCIM Camera folder to ensure they stay backed up.  A pain I know!

2020 and this is the only solution... It's crazy!

Hope this provides some help!
