I recently switched over from the old photo upload desktop app to the new backup and sync app. I have 44,000+ photos already on google drive and now with the new app, no matter how many times I restart it, it always hangs. It makes it up to around 43k files sometimes but then always hangs or restarts. It has literally been backing up since I installed it about 2 weeks ago, non stop, 24x7, no matter how many times I kill it and restart it, log out and back in or uninstall and reinstall. I had another thread on this but someone closed it and now I cannot comment on that one anymore.

Welcome to the Google Photos Help Forum.

I do understand the inconvenience as your Backup & Sync is not syncing a few photos. Also, I appreciate you for trying to fix the issue yourself and letting us know the steps you have tried.

As none of the steps helped, I recommend trying the steps below in sequence, this may help in fixing the issue:
  • On your computer, click Backup and Sync.
  • Click More.
  • Select Quit Backup and Sync.
  • Reopen Backup and Sync.
If that doesn't help, please try the below steps as well:
  • Go to Backup and Sync.
  • Click the Backup and Sync icon in your computer’s toolbar.
  • Select View # unsyncable files.
  • Click Retry all.

It syncs new files without a problem. It just never stops syncing. I have tried restarting and reinstalling and it still just keeps syncing over and over and over and over. Its literally been syncing constantly for 2 weeks. The CPU on my computer has been spiked for 2 weeks. I never had this problem with the old Google Photo Uploader app.

Thanks for posting back.

Could you please confirm if you've followed the below steps to install Backup and Sync in your device?
  • Click https://www.google.com/drive/download/
  • On your computer, click Download for PC.
  • Read the Terms of Service and click Agree and download.
  • After it’s downloaded, open installbackupandsync.exe.
  • If you see a window asking if you want to allow the program to make changes on your computer, click Yes.
  • If you’re asked to restart your computer, do it now.
  • Start Backup and Sync.
  • Sign in with your Google Account username and password.
  • Choose your sync settings and click Next.
If yes, please write back to me with a screenshot so that I can take it forward. Also, redact any personal information while sharing the screenshot.

Yes I have done this multiple times. I have also uninstalled backup and sync from Programs and Features and reinstalled it multiple times. The problem still persists. It has been syncing now for about 4 weeks straight I believe.
