Google Photos not saving all of my Partner's shared photos

I have ~170k photos on an old account and I enabled partner sharing to move them over to my new account. I also enabled "share all photos" (old account) and "save all photos" (new account).

It's been like this for over a month now where only 100k photos have moved over.

There are a ton that are visible when I go into the partner accounts' photos and I can manually save them but they're completely random.

None of the photos I'm talking about are archived or in the trash. They are also not in any special folders or in any location that should be inaccessible.

Hello delta singh,

There are some classes of photos not deemed as 'owned' by donor account.

Photos orignating in account A and shared to account B are not available to be shared back to account A
Photos Added to library from shared albums may also be excluded

Google do not provide user support so it will be up to you and me to experiment to find a reason to add to the list.

The first thing you need to do is to locate a photo in your partner's account which is not showing and look at the (i)nfo page to see where it originated to see if we can work out a pattern.  Example visible online->

Just had another thought, where do you get the figure of 170k from, if it is the dashboard then photos in albums count double. There is a way to see an accurate count in Gmail on the Android.
  1. Go to Gmail
  2. Compose
  3. tap the paperclip-> Attach file
  4. Browse files in Photos and the photos count gives an accurate number.
    • Archived items are excluded

Hey PeteranDi

I did what you suggested. I went to a few photos in my old account (that has all the photos).

It appears like so:

Old account

New account

Surprisingly so this is the same photo. On my old account there was a duplicate, on the new account, only one photo is saved with no duplicates.

I'm trying to see if this is the pattern but you can imagine trying to sift through almost 200k photos it isn't practical.

If there is a duplicate finder within Google Photos that's probably the only way for me to narrow this down.

Sorry, there is no Duplicate finder in Google Photos. I think you should trust that Google Photos has got it right and not missed any. I have been using the library share  since it was introduced in lots of test scenarios and never missed a photo.

I find it hard to believe that out of 170k photos, 70k are duplicates.

I'm going to try going through as many as I can, hopefully some pattern emerges.

Google's lack of support is not helpful at all

Yes you're right I got the number from the dashboard of the two different accounts.

I followed your instructions but unfortunately there is no counter displayed.

That's the web Gmail, the count is on the Android Gmail app.

You, my friend, are a genius.

I did the math. The difference between the accounts are 525 photos.

Realistically, it is possible that those are duplicates, in my opinion (unless you have a better explanation).

No genius, just sharing collective knowledge.  I think I would be happy leaving it at that, it's near enough and I am sure you haven't lost anything.

Yes, honestly beyond ecstatic. I had various issues with Photos over the last few months.

Now I can finally get rid of my old account completely.

Thank you so much for helping me out.
