Hello,
Since your photos are backed up and synced with your device, a normal delete action via the Google Photos app will definitely delete photos from the photo grid in Google Photos across synced devices.
To delete your photos from your device -
- You can use the Free up space option in Google Photos, that will delete all the photos from your device that have been backed up to Google Photos.
- The safest option, use any file explorer app like Files by Google or CX File explorer, to delete photos on your device without doing any harm to the backup in Google Photos.
To delete photos from Google Photos but NOT your device - You can simply head to https://photos.google.com/ and manage your photos from there. This will ONLY delete photos that have been backed up to Google Photos and NOT your device.
Permanently deleted items from the trash/bin cannot be recovered.

Hello,
Welcome to the Google Photos Help Community.
Permanently deleted items from the trash/bin cannot be recovered.
You can restore recently deleted photos and videos that are still in your trash. Items that are permanently deleted can’t be restored.
If you recently deleted your photos/ album then follow these steps
- On your phone or tablet, open the Google Photos app
.
- At the bottom, tap Collections-> Trash/Bin
.
- Touch and hold the photo or video you want to restore.
- At the bottom, tap Restore. The photo or video will be back:
- In your phone’s gallery app
- In your Google Photos library
- In any albums it was in
Backed up photos and videos stay in your trash for 60 days. Photos and videos that weren’t backed up stay in your trash for 30 days.
If you’re missing photos and videos, check your Trash or Archive Folder.
Important: If you’re inactive or over your storage limit for 2 years or more, your content may be deleted. Learn about the Google Photos inactivity policy.

Dear Google Support Team,
I am reaching out to request your help regarding an issue I recently faced with my Google account. Around March 1st, I cleared some data from my account because my Gmail storage was full. However, after doing so, all the photos and videos that were saved in my phone’s gallery disappeared.
These photos and videos were stored in multiple folders in my gallery and were very important to me. I believe they were synced with my Google account, but now I am unable to find them either in my gallery or in Google Photos.
Please help me recover these deleted photos and videos if possible. They are of great personal value, and I would truly appreciate your support in restoring them.
Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Manish Prakash
