Google please add a way to sort album's photos by filename. This is a simple method that your customers are asking.
Sorting by filename is a easy way to put the photos in order you want specially when you receive photos from other people that don't set date/time according to your settings.
We edit the pictures in our computer, adding many effects we want and rename pictures after edit all of them.
When you edit a picture or a movie the date/time become the date/time you saved the file prejudicing the automatic order Google provides.
Lot of people asking the same thing, please listen them.

This is unbelievable: a photo service that cannot sort by file name (in an album).
The following may help a bit:
- Rename in the correct order anyway: then at least the photos stay in the correct order when downloaded. And Google may (hopefully) implement this one day.
- You can change date/time of photos, also in batch, either before or after uploading.

I could not agree more, but nothing seems to help. Thousands must have asked for it by submitting feedback, we asked D. Lieb but could not convince him. He seems to think as a smartphone user who does not want to spend any time organizing his own photos (thus also not rename them) and thinks that Google's so-called A.I. will do the job. Even making albums seems too much.
"Google Photos automatically organizes your memories by the people, places, and things that matter. You don’t have to tag or label any of them, and you don’t need to laboriously create albums."

I would start with SORT PHOTOS BY FILENAME IN ALBUMS. They will never implement it in the library I guess (that would not make much sense), but in an album it makes a lot of sense. In fact it is the only feature I really miss to easily make private albums.
I already submitted feedback about this a year ago, when the Picasaweb work-around was disabled, and repeated it now. This becomes even more urgent since Google seems to manipulate date/time based on photo or upload location in a messy way.

To be honest, without the ability to sort photos by name in the album I'm ditching google photos and here's why. I deliver a lot of photos at a time, just now I wanted to upload 1700 photos. Of course I can't do that in google photos, but I can do it in smugmug. So I stubbornly uploaded to google 500 photos at a time, but the order is hopelessly wacky. My files are number 0001,0019,0123 etc so being able to sort them should be the most basic of functions. But I can't. And I'm not about to try and re-order 1700 photos. I can't believe Google doesn't have a solution for this! Google wake up! This is not what I've come to expect from google. But this has been a problem since the start, will it ever change? Back to SmugMug until then.

I could not agree more. I guess that no other photo program cannot sort by filename in a folder/album. It's very frustrating for those wanting to create their own album with photos in a given (custom) order. I have to waste precious time changing date/time to get them correctly sorted. It's even more irritating because Photos seems to change date/time in a non-consistent way, thus even photos with correct date/time get scrambled.
The reason probably is that they aim at users who just take photos and leave everything else to Google. For them Photos is a big improvement. But all the time goes to all the things they call AI, like recognizing the face of your dog or cat, but completely forget the old school users making their own albums. Programming this is really peanuts. They added sorting by newest first and by upload date, but obviously did not even think of sorting by file name, probably because they never renamed and thus did not feel the need.
Also note that this and your post will not change anything: they do not even read this forum.

I agree with your comment wholeheartedly and I'm sad to hear they don't read this. What I'm asking for is the very least they could give us from day one. Like you said, endless features that are mostly useless, yet basic functionality not there. :-( Anyway, maybe it'll change someday.

Hmm, a name sorting is not permanent, only works on a computer, but better than nothing.
