How does a link to multiple photos work?

I was sharing photos by creating a link to each one. I wondered what would happen if more than one photo was selected to be shared. Google Photos seemed to create an implicit album. I looked for that album, but it does not appear that one can give it a name. Is there a way to do that? Also, it would create an album within an album, much like folders or  labels, which is a capability that I thought would be useful.
However that group of shared photos is not of much use unless it can be referenced somehow.

It sounds like you've succesfully addressed your needs. Based on your description of your overall goal, I just want to be sure you know about the ability to add maps and text blocks to your album.  It's done by clicking the 3-dot menu, choosing Edit Album, then using the Tt icon or the map marker icon. Here is an example album using maps and text: https://photos.app.goo.gl/LsiQNDAp6K8DZAap8

  • Creating a link after selecting multiple photos indeed creates "an implicit album" which is ONLY found in the Sharing tab under "Other shared links" with a date or date range as title. Quite useless unless you just want to share it once.
  • In the web app you also find a link to the "album" in the info of each photo added to the album, but there the title reads: "n items". However, it's the easiest way to find the "album" back.
  • Yes, you can give that "album" another name: open the album, then 3-dots > Edit album. When you add a title it's like a "normal" album but not shown in the Albums tab.
  • I also prefer the approach Chris suggests: create a normal album from the start, and if you want you can "hide" it from the Albums tab. I do that when I want to share part of an album.

Why not create an explicit album? Select photos, add to new album, give it a name, create a link to share the album.
If you don't create an album, but just select photos, you can share them by creating a link, then sharing the link. The link is what will refer to the group of photos.
I don't know of any way to create sub-albums.
Let me know if this helps.

Thank you for your reply.
I know how to create an album and share it.
However, I wanted to share subsets of that album, which is why I tried selecting multiple photos and creating a link. That satisfied my immediate requirement, but as another respondent said it's not of much use because, in spite of the fact that you can name that collection as though it were an album, it is not treated as such, and the only way to access it is to open one of the photos and find it in the information.
That is regrettable, because once you have given the collection a name, it seems to me the additional effort to have it treated as an album completely, in other words listed and searchable by name, did you turn those things really lights on lights around the bed I didn't do them have this lights would not be significant.
The context for my requirement is that I'm sharing photos for a vacation, but I wanted to include links to individual photos or a few photos as part of a narrative. For example, activities belonging to a location that is part of the overall trip.
The upside of not having a formal structure is that the photos in any given collection do not have to be a subset of those in the album.
Once I have completed the narrative with the links that I want, that will serve as my "structure". I started the process by drafting an email, but realized that if I inserted photos I would quickly hit the maximum size for a gmail, so I started using links instead.

Thanks Chris,

I was not aware of the map and text options. The sample that you provided was quite impressive.
I gave them a try, but the default placement of text or a map is not what I want.

My initial search for the album that I created ïmplicitly"and then named Ziplining required 8 characters before it was listed. Now it appears as soon as I enter the first character.

The trip that I am documenting was to the Dominican Republic, so...

Tenga un buen dia, ¿eh?

You can drag text and maps around and place where you want, just like the photos.
