Hi Hille,
You cant be able to delete photos in an album someone shared with you. You can only delete photos from an album which is your own and you can only remove photos from a shared album in which you contributed your own photos to. If the said album wasnt created by you, then you cant be able to delete the photos. You can only delete photos from an album if you are the owner and if you added that photos you want to delete to the album. I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Samson

Thank you for clarifying. But honestly, I am really annoyed! As a Google Certified Educator, I thought that Google would allow increased collaboration among colleagues. This feature does not help us at all! I created an album and invited my colleague to share the album. She adds photos to the album, but I cannot edit or delete said photos?!?! What is the point of that?!?!?! It seems the only options is for her to edit and delete photos directly on her phone prior to adding them to the alum. Or...I can download the chosen Google Photos into iPhoto in order to edit or delete and then return them to the album? I guess we will stick with the old school way of plugging our phones into a computer in order to edit, delete, and organize our classroom photos? This leaves me very frustrated.

"Me and my wife want to sync all images we take with different devices"
Then you can both sign in to the same account on all devices. On mobile devices you can sign in to any account in the Google Photos app, without interfering with other apps.
If you want to use that solution you can transfer photos from one of the two account to the other. See this link.
