Hi Hille,

You cant be able to delete photos in an album someone shared with you. You can only delete photos from an album which is your own and you can only remove photos from a shared album in which you contributed your own photos to. If the said album wasnt created by you, then you cant be able to delete the photos. You can only delete photos from an album if you are the owner and if you added that photos you want to delete to the album. I hope this helps.

Kind Regards,
Samson

"Google please allow full contributor access to shared albums!"
Each contributor has full control over the photos he/she added (edit/delete).

Each contributor has full ability to add/delete/edit their *own*. But we bought the Google nest hub as family photo frames for our moms. All of our family members add pictures to a separate shared album for each mom, but we want the moms to be able to edit the album if they don’t like a photo one of us added. They can’t. We love the google nest hub as a photo frame but this lack of functionality decreases our love for it. Also, we noticed that photos we took on her birthday that day, we added to the shared album. Then she said “hey google, show me pictures from today “ and it wouldn’t pull up the shared photos we took. Again, just decreases why we bought it. I hope google can see what a market there is for shared photo frames among families and increase the ability to collaborate.

I get your point.
  • The moms can contact the owner of the album and ask to to remove some photos. The owner is the only one who can delete all photos from an album.

  • Or the moms can add these photos to an album of their own, thus become owner of the copies, and delete (or do not copy) what they want.

You must be a robot because I don’t think you understand how moms or families work! 😝
Thanks for trying to help though! I think it would be easier for Google to create an option for fully shared collaboration, than trying to teach our 70+ mothers and grandmothers how to download photos we send them and upload/manage them on google photos apps—an impossible task I assure you! If they were that computer savvy we wouldn’t have bought them these wifi photo frames in the first place! 😂 The idea of this post is to let Google know of a need in the community. My concern won’t be solved by you telling me to teach my mom how to use a computer.

Sure I do, but they are not all the same. I am a 76 years old grandpa myself. That's why I mentioned two options: they can do it or you can do it for them.

I don't think that you understand how the Google Photos team works. They do not even read what you write here. You can submit feedback to ask for new features, but don't expect a reply. We ask for the most basic feature (sorting photos by file name in an album) for years, but if they are not interested you don't get it.

I submitted the feedback through their app — thanks!

We just came back from a vacation, and we wanted to share our album with our friends. My wife wanted to remove some photos before we did that, but since I had added them, she couldn't delete them. Now we must do this either by the two of us finding time when we're together (which is tough on weekdays), or her logging into my account and then doing this herself. Either way isn't a clean solution.

Google sheets and Google docs have a feature of allowing different levels of access (including one to be able to edit whatever content is in the document regardless of who added it) to different users, which can be determined by the creator of the document. Wonder why Google chose not to give this feature in Google Photos shared albums. Strange.

  • The owner of the album can delete ALL photos
  • Others can delete the photos they added
  • When an album contains photos of more than one owner, their names do appear on the photo

@janvb Hi, genuine question: are you responding on behalf of Google? I've posted a question on a Google forum for the first time so wasn't sure if your response is an official response from Google, or you're just someone who is like the rest of the questioners.

We are all users on this forum (no Google employees), but some are recognized by Google as "Product Expert" because of many (and mostly correct) replies.
One big limitation: we can hardly help when things are not working as expected. Then you need to send feedback through the app.

Is it possible to share a video or picture within a shared album and not allow the other members of the album to download or save it?

NO. Anyone having the link can download or share further. He/she does not even to be a member of the album. Once you shared you loose control of what happens with your pictures. All you can do is only share with people you trust, and never share sensitive matter.
