Movie I Created Won't Save 2 Recommended Answers 142 Replies 834 Upvotes

I'm trying to make a video of my nephew for my sister, and I'm having issues.

Here's the breakdown: I search for my nephew, I select a bunch of photos/videos of him, and I click on "Create a Movie." From there, Google generates a movie, I make a couple of tweaks, then I click Save. The editor exits like usual, everything is fine. Except there is no movie. I have checked my photos, my video album, I have pulled up Google photos on PC, nada. I have cleared my cache, I have tried smaller batches of photos and saved without editing, still nada.

But, if I go to my home photos page, select a bunch of random photos/videos, it saves a video just fine.

Is there a way to fix this? I don't want to have to manually dig through 3 TB worth of pictures for those pictures of my nephew.

Hi Paula,

Thanks for posting in the Google Photos Help Forum.

I do understand the inconvenience as the movie that you've created is not getting saved in the Google Photos app of your Android device. Therefore, I recommend trying the steps below in sequence, this may help in fixing the issue:
  • Make sure your device is up-to-date.
  • Make sure the App is up-to-date.
  • Try restarting the App through the following steps:
    • Go to your App Settings.
    • Click stop on the afflicted App with the Force Stop button.
    • Wait a few seconds to make sure the App has stopped processing, and then attempt to re-start it.
  • Close the background running apps through the following steps:
    • Go to your App Settings.
    • Display the Active Apps on your device.
    • Select the App you wish to close and Force Stop it.
    • Repeat this step with all active Apps.
  • Try clearing your App cache through the following steps:
    • Tap the system Settings tab on the main screen of your device.
    • Tap the General section of settings that is on the far right.
    • Tap Storage in the General tab.
    • Clear the cache data once storage calculates the data.
    • Back out of the storage section.
    • Tap Applications and find the application in question.
    • Tap the application and clear the cache (if available).
    • Clear the data for the application if there is no cache to clear.
    • Exit the settings screen and restart the device.
Let me know if this helps.

Best,
Emma

Thanks for your help, Emma. Unfortunately, I have completed all of those steps, and the movie still won't save if it is created via photos on a search page.

I'm having the exact same issue. On 07/24/18, I tried 4 separate times (twice on my Samsung S9 smartphone, twice on my Samsung A tablet) to make a custom movie from photos already uploaded to Google photos. I finish my edits, click on save, wait a little while for it to complete, and after I get sent back to the main photos page, there's no resulting video in my library. I tried clearing the cache, shutting down active apps, etc. as described here. I even tried saving with different music and photos (thinking the movie length or music chosen might be an issue) but still nothing. However, the "auto generated "love story" works fine. Has anyone found a solution to this? Thank you.

I have same problem. I created movie but can't publish him on YouTube, or save on device or Google drive. On PC movie can't be open.
