Remove Whatsapp photos from Google Photos

Hi,

I recently upgraded phones, from the Pixel 2 to the Pixel 6. In the process of making sure I wasn't going to lose any information, I clicked on the cloud icon on the Whatsapp images folder, in Google Photos, thinking it might upload them to a folder somewhere. Unfortunately, it meshed them with my own photos.

Now, I've unselected the cloud icon, so it's no longer backing them up, since Whatsapp actually has its own backup anyway. But I'm left with years of whatsapp images interspersed with my own. It'll take me hours, days, to go through and remove them.

Can I filter for photos I took with the actual phone? And delete all the other ones? Any help appreciated! I can't seem to find anything beyond the toggling of the cloud icon... which is too late for me.

In the Google Photos web app https://photos.google.com/ you can search with the camera name as shown in the info of a photo. But you will have to select all others to delete them? and I don't know of an easy way to do this.

It may be better to go to "Recently added" where all the photos may be together on the upload day. You find Recently added:

The WA-photos can be found easily by typing WA in the searchbox.

But if you delete on Google, they also will get deleted from the WA-folders and then these pictures and videos will not be visible in the chats anymore and that can be unhandy.
So better to to select and choose Archive under the 3 dots - then they stay safely stored at Google, but don't mix with your own photos. And they take not much storage at Google because they are low quality and have no original data unless the date they were stored at Google.

Best to switch-off the backup switch in the WA-folders under Pictures on device on the Library page thereafter. But then they are not safely stored at Google anymore. That archive can be viewed on the same page.
Good luck
