Create and edit photo albums

You can create, edit and add things like maps and text in your photo albums. 

You can add up to 20,000 photos or videos to an album. 

Tip: 

• Live albums are not available in all countries. 
• Some features may not be available when you have a large album.

Create a new album

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Touch and hold a photo, and then select the photos that you want in your new album.
4. In the menu, tap Add to album New album.
5. Optional: Add a title to your new album.
6. Tap Done .

Create a live album

You can set up an album to automatically add photos of your friends and family.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. At the top right, tap Add Album .
4. Tap Select people and pets.
5. On any face group, tap Select .
6. At the top right, tap Done.

View your meaningful albums

You can go to your Moments to view your most meaningful albums. We automatically create albums based on your trips and exciting experiences, but you can also add existing albums to your Moments. Automatically generated albums are available in Moments.

Add to your Moments

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. At the bottom, tap Collections Moments Add .
3. Tap + Create new.
4. Select the photos that you want to add.
5. Tap Add Add a title.
6. To exit, tap Done .

Tips:

• Under 'Add to your moments?', you can create a new moment from the suggested groups of photos.
• You can add existing albums to your Moments.

Find your albums

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. At the bottom, tap Collections Albums.
3. To filter your albums, tap All, Shared with me or My albums.
4. To sort your albums, tap Sort by . You can sort by:
   • Album title
   • Last modified
   • Most recent photo

Change how your album looks

Change your cover photo

Change the photo that's shown on the front of your album.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. Open the photo that you want to use.
5. At the top right, tap More Use as album cover.

Change the title of an album

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Tap Collections Albums.
4. Open an album.
5. At the bottom, tap Edit current title.
6. Type a new title.
7. Tap Done .

Change items in your album

Move items around

You can reorder photos, videos, text and locations by dragging them.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Tap Collections Albums.
4. At the top, tap Sort .
5. You can sort by:
   • Newest
   • Oldest
   • Recently added

Add or remove photos and videos

Add photos

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. At the bottom, tap Add to album .
5. Select the items that you want to add.
6. At the top right, tap Add.

Add photos automatically

If you choose multiple people, any photo containing either person will be added automatically.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open an album.
4. At the bottom, tap Add to album .
5. At the bottom, tap Automatically add.
6. Select the people or pets that you want to be automatically added to the album.
   • If no one appears, you might need to turn on Face Groups.
7. At the top right, tap Done.

You'll be notified any time a photo is added to the album. To stop getting notifications, turn off Notify me.

Stop adding photos automatically

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open an album.
4. At the bottom, tap Add to album .
5. At the bottom, tap Automatically add photos of certain people or pets.
6. Tap Cancel next to people or pets that you want to stop being automatically added to the album.

If you remove someone, new photos of them won't be added. Any existing photos will stay in the album.

Tip: Face Groups isn't perfect. Photos that don't have any of the selected people may occasionally be added.

Remove photos

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. At the bottom, tap Edit .
5. On items that you want to remove, tap Remove . Photos and videos that you remove from albums will still be in your Google Photos library unless you delete them from the main 'Photos' section.
6. Tap Done .

Add maps and locations

Add locations

You can add locations and maps to albums that you've created. If you share the album, these will be included.

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. At the bottom, tap Edit .
5. Tap Add location .
6. Decide if you want:
   • Location: The name of one location.
   • Map: A map showing where you travelled.
   • All suggested locations: Locations and maps suggested by Google Photos.
7. Tap Done .
8. To move a location within the album, tap More Edit album drag it to the position where it belongs tap Done .

Remove locations

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. At the bottom, tap Edit .
5. On items that you want to remove, tap Remove .
6. Tap Done .

Add or change text

Add text

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. At the bottom, tap Edit .
5. Tap Text .
6. Add text and tap Done .
7. To move a text box, tap More Edit album drag the box to another place tap Done .

Change or delete text

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. At the bottom, tap Edit .
   • Edit text: Tap the text, then change it.
   • Delete text: Tap Remove .
5. Tap Done .

Delete an album

1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google Photos app .
2. Sign in to your Google Account.
3. Open the album.
4. At the top right, tap More Delete album. Photos and videos in the album will still be in your Google Photos library unless you delete them from the main 'Photos' section.

What you can do if you didn't create the album

• Only the person who created the album will be able to make these changes to it.
• If you're a collaborator on an album but didn't create it, you can only add photos and videos.
