You can use the Google Photos Android app on your Chromebook to edit your photos and videos, and make highlight videos.
Important: These features are only available in the Google Photos app on your Chromebook. If your Chromebook doesn't have the Google Photos app, you can download it.
Edit & enhance a photo or video
Important: Some features are only available to Google One members or Chromebook Plus users.
- On your Chromebook, open the Google Photos app
.
- Select the photo or video that you want to edit.
- Select Edit
.
- On the right, choose an editing tool to use on your photo or video. Some of the features may include:
- Suggestions
: Offers suggestions for enhanced editing tools like Portrait and Color Pop.
- Tools
: Choose from other editing tools like Portrait blur and Sky.
- Adjust
: Manually apply more detailed edits like Brightness, Contrast, and Shadows.
- Filters
: Apply preset filters to liven up your photos or videos.
- Markup
: Manually add freehand writing or text to your photos.
- Suggestions
- Once done, on the top right corner, click Save. It will save the latest version with new edits, overwriting the original file.
Tip: If you can't find extra editing tools like Magic eraser :
- Make sure you're connected to Wi-Fi and have available device storage.
- In Google Photos, select an image and select Edit
. You may get an update notification.
- After a few minutes, close and reopen the app.
- To check your editing tools again, select an image and select Edit

Several Google Photos edit features are built into Chromebook Plus and up devices:
- Select Magic eraser
to remove unwanted distractions.
- Select Erase to remove distractions from your photo.
- Select Camouflage to change the color of distracting objects in your photo.
- Select Portrait light
to adjust the position and brightness of portraits of a person.
- Select Blur
to adjust background blur.
- To adjust what ranges of your photo are blurred instead of in focus, you can also use Depth
.

- Select Sky
to select from several palettes and adjust the color and contrast in the sky.
- Select Color focus
to desaturate the background, but keep the foreground in color.
- Select HDR
to enhance brightness and contrast across the image for a more balanced photo.
- On your Chromebook Plus, open Photos
.
- On the left, select Utilities.
- Under "Create new," select Cinematic photo.
- Select a photo.
- At the bottom right, select Save.
You can make and edit collages with photos in your library on the Google Photos app or on the web. To edit your collages on your mobile device, use the Google Photos app. Some features aren't available on the web.
Step 1: Choose your photos
- On your Chromebook, open the Google Photos app
.
- Select up to 6 photos.
- At the bottom, select Add to
Collage.
Step 2: Choose a design & edit your photos
Before you save, you can replace, edit, rotate, resize, and change the order of the photos in your collage.
- Select a collage design.
- Edit your photos.
- To replace a photo:
- Select the photo you want to replace
Replace.
- Select a new photo.
- Select Done.
- Select the photo you want to replace
- To edit a photo, select the photo you want to edit
Edit.
- To rotate a photo:
- Touch and hold the photo.
- Turn until the photo reaches the position you want it in.
- To zoom in or out of a photo frame, pinch closed to zoom out and pinch open to zoom in.
- To change the order of the photos, touch and hold, then drag the photo to the position where you want it.
- To replace a photo:
Tip: If you're a Google One member, a Pixel user, or a Chromebook Plus user you can get more styles. Your device must have at least 3 GB RAM and Android version 8.0 and up. Learn how to sign up for Google One.
Step 3: Review & save your collage
Once you choose a collage layout and make any edits to your photos, to save your collage, select Save.
Step 4: Find your collages
- On your Chromebook, open Google Photos
.
- At the bottom, select Search
.
- Under “Creations,” select Saved creations.
Create a highlight video
Important: This feature is only available on the Android app on your Chromebook.
- On your Chromebook, open the Google Photos app
.
- On the left, select Creations
.
- Select Create new
Movie
.
- For a suggested highlight video, select an optional preset theme.
- Or click New movie and select the photos and videos you would like to include.
Tip: To create highlight videos, you can also open the Launcher and search for “movie.”
Add photos or videos to your highlight video
At the bottom of your screen, you’ll find the storyboard of your highlight video. In the storyboard, you can add photos or video clips, and drag and drop to rearrange them.
- On the right, select Add

- Choose a new photo or video

Edit photos & video in your highlight video
- Tap on a clip to select the photo or video.
- Select the tool you want to use in the Editing panel. Changes apply as you go.
- To close the editing panel, press
.
Add music to your highlight video
- On the right, select Add
.
- At the top, select Add soundtrack.
- Choose My music or Theme music.
- To add music from your personal library, choose My music.
- To add music available in the app’s Soundtrack library, choose Theme music.
- Choose the music that you want to add.
