Installing SketchUp

Before getting started, you'll need to Download SketchUp. If you encounter issues downloading, see our Installing SketchUp topic for assistance.

After downloading the file, follow these steps to install SketchUp:

Windows
  1. Log in to the computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
  2. Double-click on the EXE install file.

    Windows Vista/Windows 7: right-click and select Run as an administrator.

  3. Click Next in the Welcome dialog box.
  4. You may be asked to install the .NET Framework at this point. This software is required for SketchUp Pro. For more information, please click here.

    If you're asked to reboot after installing the .NET Framework, please do so. To resume installing SketchUp, double-click on the SketchUp install file after your computer reboots.

  5. Click on the I accept the terms of this license agreement button in the End User License Agreement if you agree to the terms.
  6. Click the Next button to install SketchUp in the default location.
  7. Click the Install button if you're satisfied with the settings.
  8. Click on the Finish button when prompted.

    Windows Vista/Windows 7: Be sure to close SketchUp Pro after installing prior to authorizing.

  9. Launch SketchUp once before logging out of the administrative user account. If you have a SketchUp Pro license, please be aware that you must authorize while logged in to an administrative account. See the links below for help authorizing.
Mac
  1. Log in to the computer with a user account that has administrator rights.
  2. Double-click on the DMG install file. This will mount the installer drive and launch a Finder window.
  3. Double-click on the ".mpkg" file. This will launch the installer window.
  4. Click Continue in the Introduction section.
  5. If you accept the Software License Agreement, click the Continue button then click Agree.
  6. Select the destination for the installation, and click Continue.

  7. Warning: SketchUp can only be installed on your root volume. For troubleshooting information refer to this article.

  8. Click the Install button. You may be prompted for your user account Password to authorize the installation.
  9. When the installation completes, click the Close button.
  10. If you have a SketchUp Pro license, please be aware that you must authorize while logged in to an administrative account. See the links below for help authorizing.

Authorizing SketchUp Pro
