Organizations with automatic tax-exemption

The content in this article applies to US applicants to the Google for Nonprofits program.

Some types of organizations in the United States, such as churches, that meet the requirements of IRC section 501(c)(3) are automatically considered tax exempt and are not required to apply for and obtain recognition of tax-exempt status from the IRS. However, in order to be eligible for the Google for Nonprofits Program, organizations must obtain recognition of 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS. Organizations not registered with the IRS and not listed in the IRS's online publication of tax exempt organizations will not be approved for the Google for Nonprofits program.

Organizations that are part of a group ruling should apply as a branch organization of their parent organization, using their parent organization's EIN.
