How to fix: Single-color image can't be used

Change image to one that better reflects the product. Single-colored images can only be used for specific types of products.

Why this issue is happening

One or more of your products use a single-color image (that is, an image that contains only one color).

The image must show the advertised product unless your product falls into one of the following Google product categories:

  • Vehicle Paint (ID: 3812)
  • Craft Paint, Ink & Glaze (ID: 505378)
  • Painting Consumables (ID: 503740)

In each of the above product categories a single-color image is acceptable.

How to fix your issue

Provide a main image that clearly shows the principal product being advertised using the image link [image_link] attribute.

Products with single-color images will remain disapproved and won’t show until you’ve updated the images or submitted the Google product category that allows single-color images.

Fix products one by one directly in Merchant Center

Step 1Navigate to Products in Merchant Center, then select the Needs attention tab.

Step 2Use the filter icon above the table to find all products affected by your issue.

Step 3Click on the title of the product you want to fix, then click Edit product.

Step 4Update the image link [image_link] attribute or change the Google product category to a category that allows single-color images.

Step 5Select Save.

Fix multiple products at once

Step 1Navigate to Products in Merchant Center, then select the Needs attention tab.

Step 2Use the filter icon above the table to find all products affected by your issue.

Step 3Select the Download icon to download a list (.csv) of all affected products for all issues or this particular issue.

Step 4Cross reference the downloaded list with your uploaded product data. Update the image link [image_link] attribute or change the Google product category to a category that allows single-color images.

Step 5Reupload your corrected product data to Merchant Center using your chosen upload method.

Next steps

After making the requested changes, check that you’ve fixed the issue by making sure it’s no longer listed on the “Needs attention” page.

Keep in mind: It may take some time for your change to be reflected on the “Needs attention” page.
