In Google Meet, you can use Miro, a third-party whiteboarding application. The Miro add-on in Meet lets you collaborate on a Miro whiteboard with other video call participants in real time.
This feature is available to users with:
- A laptop or desktop device
- A Chrome or Edge browser
Other browsers are currently not supported.
Feature availability
The Miro add-on is available to all Meet users except:
- Users under the age of 18
- Users on a Google Family Link account
This feature is on for all users by default except for those with a Workspace for Education account. To turn on this feature for your organisation, Workspace for Education users can contact their Workspace admin. Learn more about how to manage Meet video settings.
Meeting hosts: Launch a Miro board from Meet
Important: Only meeting hosts can start a Miro board from Meet.
To launch a Miro board, you can:
- Launch as a guest not signed in to a Miro account.
- Sign in to your Miro account.
Tip: If you prefer to maintain an archive of all your Miro boards or want to make it easier to access your previously created boards, you should launch Miro after you have signed in to your Miro account.
- In a Google Meet meeting, in the bottom right, click activities
.
- Under 'Add-ons', click Miro
.
- If it's your first time using Miro, click Get started.
- Select an option:
Tip: If you're signed in to your Miro account before you join a meeting, you'll automatically find your created boards and an option to create a new board.
- Create a board without registration

- If you click Create board without registration, a new Miro tab will automatically open for you. If you decide to sign in, you must first select between a new or an existing board and then select one of the access settings:
- Anyone can edit: Guests don't need to sign in to their Miro account to edit the board. Guests still have to sign in to their Google Account.
- Anyone can comment: Guests don't need to sign in to their Miro account to add comments to the board. Guests still have to sign in to their Google Account.
- Anyone can view: Guests don't need to sign in to their Miro account to view the board. Guests still have to sign in to their Google Account.
- Private: Your in-meeting participants need to sign in or create a Miro account to access the Miro board.
- After you have selected one of the access settings, a new Miro tab will open automatically.
- Tip: For first-time Miro add-on users, to let the app host the current Meet call that you're in, on the page that says 'Miro wants to access your Google Account', click Allow. If you decline the authorisation, you're directed back to the Meet tab and the Miro board won't launch.
- In the Miro tab, there'll be a picture-in-picture Google Meet panel. At the bottom of the Meet panel, click Start collaboration

- This sends invitations to everyone in the Meet to join your collaboration session. A confirmation message will appear in the lower left corner.
- To view and collaborate on the Miro board, participants can either:
- Click the link that you send.
- In the invitation pop-up, click Join.
- Go to the top of their screen and on the banner, click Join.
Meeting hosts: End a Miro session
Important: Only meeting hosts can end a Miro session. Participants can only leave a Miro session.
To end the Miro collaboration session, from the bottom of the Meet panel in the Miro tab:
- Click End collaboration

- From the pop-up that appears, click End and return to Meet.
- This ends the session for all participants and asks participants to return to Meet.
Tip: If you accidentally exit the Miro tab, you can also end a Miro collaboration session from within Meet. In Meet, at the bottom of the Meet panel, click End collaboration. From the pop-up that appears, click End and return to Meet.
Tip: If you join the Miro tab through a Google Meet breakout room and click pop-out , you won't go directly to the main room. You'll land in the breakout room. You can then transfer to the main room from the breakout room.
Meeting participants: Access a launched Miro board
As a meeting participant, once the Miro board initiator shares a board with you, you get an in-meeting pop-up. To enter the Miro session, click Join.
If you join a meeting with a launched Miro board, from the blue bar at the top of the Meet UI, click Join.
The Miro board initiator decides if you need to sign in to your Miro account to access the Miro board or if you can access Miro as a guest. Either way, you must always sign in to your Google Account to access Miro.
Tip: When accessing a Miro board for the first time, on the page that says 'Miro wants to access your Google Account', click Allow. When you click a Miro link, it directs you to the authorisation process. Once authorised, you'll land on the Miro board with a picture-in-picture Google Meet panel.
To leave a Miro session:
- In the Meet panel of the Miro page, click on Leave Miro
.
- In the pop-up that appears, click on Return to Meet.
Tip: If you join the Miro tab through a Google Meet breakout room and click pop-out , you won't go directly to the main room. You'll land in the breakout room. You can then transfer to the main room from the breakout room.
