You can turn on captions to view subtitles as everyone speaks while in a meeting. The captions are turned on only for you.

You can use translated captions to translate to and from certain languages.

Turn captions on or off

How to: Enable captions in Google Meet

  1. On your computer, go to Google Meet.
  2. Join a meeting.
  3. At the bottom, click Turn on captions or Turn off captions .

Turn on translated captions

Important: Translated captions in Google Meet will be exclusively available at a future date to the Gemini Enterprise and AI Meetings and Messaging add-ons. We'll provide a minimum of six months' notice to existing Google Workspace customers before this change takes place.

Translated captions are currently only available for the following Workspace editions
  • Business Standard
  • Business Plus
  • Enterprise Starter
  • Enterprise Standard
  • Enterprise Plus
  • Teaching and learning upgrade
  • Education Plus

Some translated caption languages are only available to users on work accounts through the Gemini Enterprise and AI Meetings and Messaging add-ons.

Important: If you record a meeting, select Record captions to embed captions in the clip.

  1. On your computer, go to Google Meet.
  2. In your meeting, click More options More and then Settings Settings and then Captions .
  3. Select Language of the meeting.
  4. Turn on translated captions .
  5. Select the language that you prefer to translate into.
