How do I remove a fraudulant business review from Google Maps?

Our company received a negative review last year on a site called "CitySearch." It turns out the review was written by a unhappy former employee. Making matters worse, the comment was picked up and posted on Google Maps. We contacted CitySearch several weeks ago and they removed the review after determining it was spam. The post still remains on Google Maps, however. The review is fraudulant and detrimental to our company's online reputation. We request it be removed. Key words used would be "hot tubs" Glen Allen" "Virginia" "Richmond" "spas" et., al. Thank you for your help. I'm posting the link below.

Have a look in the discussion area welcome message, there is a link to a special spam reporting thread.

Thanks for your reply. I've reported the problem in this thread but the review remains. Not sure where to go from here...

I am also having a similar problem.  I am having a competitor post negative reviews for my business.  This is definitely very damaging to our online reputation.  My link is:

Google has been extremely slow to respond to my requests to get these reviews removed.  I'm thinking of posting my own review to address the negative reviews.  I think that is probably the best way I can think of at this point.  I can just call out the posters in my review, although I do think it is a bit tacky, but at this point, how else would a casual surfer know that these are fake reviews.  I am very upset with google's response on this issue.

As well, I have gone to google support, and filled out the "remove content from google form". I have done it 6 times, and all 6 times, they told me the URL address link I provided was not valid. I've done every single URL link I can, but can't get rid of an Insider Review. Insider Review removed the link, but it still shows on google maps.

Hi TRH, eliteautoglass, and harley578,

Thanks for reporting this issue.

For any reviews appearing on Google Maps that are pulled from a third party site, such as CitySearch, please rest assured that the review will eventually be removed from Maps after it has been removed from the third party site.

For any reviews that a user has left through Google Maps, simply choose 'Flag as inappropriate' with an explanation as to why this review violates our policies. Somebody will take a look at the user's comments as well as your explanation.

Hopefully this helps!

  • Vote up a post.
  • Correctly mark a topic or post as abuse.

Having a post marked and removed as abuse will slow a user's advance in levels.
