Plan your commute or trip

Before you start driving to home, work, or other places, plan your trip and see useful info. This way, you can know when to leave, what traffic to expect, and which route to take.

Hide your regular routes

If your Location History is turned on, sometimes you'll see directions for your regular routes: the usual paths you take. If you don't want this info shown, you can hide your regular routes.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. Tap Menu Menu and then Settings and then Personal content.
  3. Turn off Regular routes.

See traffic now & later

To reach your destination as quickly as possible, check typical traffic before you drive. You can avoid the busiest times of day.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. Search for a destination, or tap a place on the map.
  3. At the bottom, tap Directions.
  4. At the top, tap Driving Driving.
  5. Tap the white bar at the bottom of the screen. You’ll see:
    • The current traffic on your route
    • Typical traffic by the hour and any slowdowns on the way

Tell us about your commute

To make directions and trip info more accurate and reliable, tell Google Maps about your commute. You can give details about usual arrival times, departure times, and travel days.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. At the bottom, tap Driving Driving.
  3. Tap Set up commute updates. If you don’t see this option, tap Menu Menu and then Settings and then Commute settings.
  4. Follow the instructions.
