Add a shortcut to places you visit often

Add a shortcut, or widget, to your Home screen to easily get information using the Google Maps app.

Add a shortcut to get directions

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, go to the widget section.
  2. Find the "Google Directions" widget Google Maps.
  3. Touch and hold the widget and drop it on your Home screen.
  4. At the top, choose a type of transport, like walking or driving.
  5. Enter a destination and shortcut name.
  6. Check any boxes that match your preferences. For example, you can check a box to always avoid tolls for driving routes.
  7. Tap Save. When you tap the widget on your Home screen, Google Maps will navigate to your saved destination.

Quickly get directions to home or work

  1. On your Home screen, touch and hold the Google Maps app Google Maps.
  2. Tap Home or Work.
