View or edit your timeline

Your timeline in Google Maps helps you find the places you've been and the routes you've traveled. Your timeline is private, so only you can see it.

See where you've been

You can see how far you travelled and the way you travelled from place to place, like walking, biking, driving, or public transportation. Whether your timeline measures distances in miles or kilometers is based on your country.

  1. On your computer, open Google Maps.
  2. Sign in with the same Google Account you use on your mobile device.
  3. In the top left, click Menu Menu.
  4. Click Your timeline Timeline.
  5. To see another date, at the top, choose a day, month, and year.

Tip: To see places that you've visited recently, click Menu Menu and then Your places and then Visited.

Edit your timeline

If a place is wrong on your timeline, you can edit the location and when you were there.

  1. On your computer, go to your timeline.
  2. Find the place you want to change on your timeline and click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  3. Choose the correct place or search for a place in the search box.
  4. To edit when you were there, click the time.
See Google Photos on your timeline

You can choose whether to show photos on your timeline. Photos show up on your timeline when they're uploaded to Google Photos.

  1. On your computer, open Google Maps.
  2. Click Menu Menu and then Your timeline Timeline.
  3. Click Settings Settings and then Timeline settings.
    • To show photos on your timeline, turn "Google Photos" on.
    • To stop photos from showing up on your timeline, turn "Google Photos" off.
  4. Click Save.

Note: You can remove photos from your timeline, but they won't be deleted from Google Photos.

Remove photos

Photos show up on your timeline when they're uploaded to Google Photos. You can delete photos from your timeline, but they won't be deleted from Google Photos.

  1. On your computer, go to your timeline.
  2. In the top right of the photo, click the check mark for each photo you want to delete.
  3. Choose Remove photo.

Delete a day

Important: When you delete location info, it’s permanent. You won’t be able to see it again.

  1. On your computer, go to your timeline.
  2. Click on the day you want to delete.
  3. In the panel on the left, go to the top right and click Delete Delete.
  4. Choose Delete day.

Delete location history

Important: When you delete location info, it’s permanent. You won’t be able to see it again.

To delete Location History, follow the steps below.

  1. On your computer, go to your timeline.
  2. In the bottom right, click Delete Delete. You can also click Settings Settings.
  3. Choose Delete all Location History.

Turn on or pause Location History

When you enable Location History, Google records your location data and places in your Google Account, even when you're not using Google Maps. To turn on or pause your Location History, follow the steps below:

  1. On your computer, go to your timeline.
  2. Click Settings Settings and then Enable Location History or Pause Location History.
