Use indoor maps to view floor plans

You can see and navigate inside places like airports, department stores, and malls using the Google Maps app.

Note: Indoor maps is only available in selected locations. See a list of places that have indoor maps.

To find or search for an indoor map, follow the steps below.

  1. Open Google Maps.
  2. Search for a place that has indoor maps.
  3. To see the floor plan, zoom in to the map and click on a building or place.
  4. In the bottom right, choose among levels and floors.

Tip: To learn more about a place in the building, click the place on the map.

Search indoor maps

To search an indoor map, make sure you're fully zoomed in to a building with an indoor map. Searching works just like it does in the rest of Google Maps.

Upload a floor plan to Google Maps

You can add a floor plan to Google Maps using your computer. To add a floor plan, follow the steps below.


Step 1: Review the guidelines

Before you get started, please make sure to read the Google Maps floor plans guidelines below.

Google Maps floor plan guidelines

Google uses your uploaded floor plans and other information to map internal layouts of buildings and help people navigate indoors. If your content is used, Google reserves the right to edit, change, correct, or make it our own based off it without any attribution to you or any other source.

When uploading, follow the guidelines below.

Note: These guidelines might change from time to time, so check back here for the most current guidelines.

Upload requirements

When uploading a floor plan, respect the rights of others and act lawfully. For every upload, you must:

  • Have all necessary rights, permissions, and/or licenses to create or upload your content including any applicable intellectual property, survey, and building rights.
  • Abide by all applicable laws, regulations, and rules including any owner instructions, notices, posted signage, restrictions of uploading floor plans, or covering your activities within a building.
  • Respect the privacy of others with respect to content being uploaded.
  • Refrain from activities that may harm or interfere with others' use or enjoyment of a property.

Prohibited content

  • Non-public buildings: This includes private residences or secured buildings that require clearance for entry.
  • National defense content: This includes content associated with national defense or government security.
  • Secret content: This includes any trade or government secrets.
  • Image of people: This includes any identifiable person.
  • Trademarked content: This includes labels on floor plans that falsely imply endorsement or sponsorship by the relevant trademark holder. It also includes trademarked logos or similar decorative elements.
  • Copyrighted content: This includes alleged copyright content. Google responds to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement.
  • Illegal content: This includes content that violates any applicable law, regulation, or rule including owner instructions, notices, or posted signage.
  • Inappropriate content: This includes obscenities, pornography, defamatory statements, hate speech, and threats of violence. Google reserves the right to remove inappropriate non-factual content and content that harms our system including spam, malware, viruses, or other harmful code.

Step 2: Upload a floor plan

To upload a floor plan of a public location using your computer, follow the steps below.

  1. Make sure the floor plan is saved as .JPG, .PNG, .PDF, .BMP, or .GIF.
  2. Open your web browser and go to
  3. Enter an address or location of a building.
  4. Drag the pin to the center of the building.
  5. Click Use this building.
  6. Enter information about the floor plan, like the name of the building, floor labels, and the number of floors.
  7. Select the image file you want to use and click Upload map for this floor.

Step 3: Line up your floor plan with satellite images

To line up your floor plan with satellite images, follow the steps below.

  1. Rotate, move, and resize the floor plan until it lines up with the footprint of the building.
  2. Click Save Alignment.

Step 4: Submit your map

To submit your floor plan, click Submit for processing.

After submitting your floor plan, it will be reviewed. After your floor plan is approved, it will be available to anyone using Google Maps.

Improve a floor plan with the Floor Plan Marker app for Android

To improve the location accuracy of your floor plan, use the Google Maps Floor Plan Marker app on your Android phone. After you upload a floor plan, you'll see it in the Marker app within 24 hours. Once the floor plan is in the app, walk through the building to collect relevant location information.

To further improve location information, Google periodically sends in-field operators into some stores to run scans. Operators use the Floor Plan Marker app to scan for publicly available information, like Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth BLE, and cell tower signals. The scan doesn't contain any confidential or personal information. If you don't want Google to collect information about your Wi-Fi access points, you can opt out.

There are two versions of the app:

  • Standard version: For small venues.
  • Advanced version: For large venues or floor plans that were submitted for publishing.

Note: The Google Maps Floor Plan Marker app is only available in selected countries.

Use the standard version of the Floor Marker app

To use the Floor Marker app, follow the steps below.

  1. Download the standard version of the Google Maps Floor Plan Marker app.
  2. Go to the space that you want to map and open the Floor Marker app .
  3. Touch Find my venue and select a venue name.
  4. Depending on your starting location, touch Inside or Outside. Before walking around, select a building type:
    • Detached: You can walk around the entire building.
    • Terraced: You can only access the front of the building.
    • Multiple entrances: There is more than one entrance.
  5. Touch Walk. When you walk around a space, it's considered one walk. To get high-quality data, you should do six walks for indoor spaces and two walks for outdoor spaces.
  6. Touch Add an entrance and walk around the entrance area.
  7. When you're done with your indoor and outdoor walks, touch Upload.
  8. Select your items and touch Upload .
Use the advanced version of the Floor Marker app

To use the Floor Marker app, follow the steps below.

  1. Download the advanced version of the Google Maps Floor Plan Marker app.
  2. Upload and submit your floor plan following the instructions above.
  3. Go to the space that you want to map and open the Floor Plan Marker app .
  4. Touch Find my venue and select a venue name.
    Note: If you don't see your venue, walk around or touch Refresh . If you still can't see the venue, send us feedback and let us know.
  5. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on, choose a floor, and start walking around the venue slowly.
  6. Touch Upload.
Remove information from your Google Account

You can remove floor plans or walking information from your Google Account. After you've disassociated the info, Google may still have the floor plans and walking information, but the floor plans and walking information won't be tied to your Google Account or be used to identify you.

To remove information from your Google Account, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to
  2. Before removing your account, make sure you really want to remove it because there is no way to undo it. If you're sure you want to remove this info, select Disconnect this information from my Google Account.

Note: After disconnecting your account, you can't see floor plans or walks you've uploaded. Floor plans that you've uploaded but not submitted will also be removed.

Report a problem

If you're a building owner and would like to report a problem with a floor plan or non-public building like a private residence, report a data problem. If you would like to request that an indoor map be removed, include the words "indoor takedown" in the description of the issue.

To tell us about prohibited content, request to have it removed from Google.

Note: The "Report a problem" feature is not available for all countries.
