Set up your vehicle profile in the Google Maps app

If you drive a car, you can create a vehicle profile in Google Maps.

Change your vehicle settings

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle and then Settings Settings and then Your vehicles.
  3. Based on the vehicle you drive, select your engine type:
    • If you drive a vehicle with an internal combustion engine, choose Gas or Diesel.
    • If you drive a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) or Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) vehicle, choose Gas.
    • If you drive a hybrid or plug-in hybrid that mostly runs with fuel, choose Hybrid.
    • If you drive an electric vehicle (EV) or plug-in hybrid that mostly runs on electricity, choose Electric.

Add your EV to Google Maps

If you own an EV, you can enter your vehicle info to find:

  • Compatible plugs and adapters
  • Supported features like EV charging station search filtering and battery predictions
  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle and then Settings Settings and then Your vehicles.
  3. Under “Engine type,” tap Electric.
  4. Under “Vehicle,” tap Add vehicle.
  5. To select the correct info for your EV, tap each category:
    • Make
    • Model
    • Year
    • Trim
  6. Under “Your plugs,” confirm the plugs are correct.
    • To edit your plugs, tap Edit.
  7. Tap Save.

Check estimated battery usage for your trip

Important: This feature is only available for compatible EVs on Google Maps app version 25.44 and up.

After you add a compatible EV to Google Maps, your trip overview page displays an estimated battery usage for your trip. This estimate is a prediction that:

  • Depends on the vehicle info you’ve provided for accuracy.
  • Won’t adjust to real-time driving conditions or a live connection with your car.

Change your vehicle profile after you get driving directions

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Search or tap a place on the map.
  3. Tap Directions.
  4. At the top right, tap More More and then Options and then Your vehicle.
  5. Select your engine type.

Search for compatible EV charging stations

If your vehicle profile is set to "Hybrid" or "Electric," you can search for charging stations that have their compatible EV plugs available:

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Search: charging stations.
  3. Under “EV plugs,” tap Any plugs or Your plugs.

Connect your vehicle profile with Google Maps

If Google Maps is built into your vehicle, you can connect it to the Google Maps app on your mobile device. Compatible plugs for your vehicle will automatically show up in your vehicle profile and in your charging station search results.

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle and then Settings Settings and then Your vehicles.
  3. Under “Connected vehicles,” select the vehicle you’d like to connect.

Edit or remove a saved vehicle

  1. On your mobile device, open the Google Maps app Maps.
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial Account Circle and then Settings Settings and then Your vehicles.
  3. Next to the vehicle, tap More More.
  4. Manage the saved vehicle:
    • To edit a saved vehicle, tap Edit vehicle.
    • To remove a saved vehicle, tap Delete vehicle.

Tip: When you search for a charging station, you can select the chip for your saved vehicles directly.
