How to get unstuck from an old version of gmail after accidentally selecting html.

Question

Here is what happened: I accidentally tapped use html view in a page that popped up when I tried to view gmail on my Iphone. I managed to unselect html view, but now whenever I select standard view an old version of gmail is used instead of standard. 
Here is what I have tried: The google help link that claims it can switch you from html to standard (doesn't work). Clearing my cache on my chrome mobile browser after signing out and trying to sign in (doesn't work).
