Why does my display name keep changing on its own??

I was hacked about a week ago, I noticed because my last name (in my display name) was changed. I went into my settings, changed the display name back to my correct last name and to my correct birthday (this was also changed). I did google's safety precautions- change password, setup 2-step verification, etc. My display name was back to the correct name until this morning...

My display name is back to Lauren Smith, which is the name that it was changed to last week (not by me & not my correct name).
I went onto my google account (on a PC, my iphone and ipad) and tried many different ways to find out where/how this has been changed once again. My settings still say my correct display name, however, whenever I send a new email, the display name is Lauren Smith.
I have not gotten any account security/sign-on warnings. Please help.. Do I need to delete my account? Is it not syncing up on the back end?

Please check the name listed under Send mail as under Gmail:
  • Click the gear icon and choose Settings
  • Click the Accounts tab
  • Look for Send Mail As
  • Alongside your GMail address click "edit info"
  • Change your name and save changes
If you happen to use an email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird, or the default iOS/Android Email app, please look under Settings for those email clients or mail apps to set your name.

Please post an update.

Hi Somnoth,

Thanks so much for the information. I was able to change my name back in my iPhone settings like you suggested.
Can you help me understand why it changed on it’s own? Two weeks ago, I believe I was hacked because under my google/gmail account settings my bday and name was changed. I changed it back to the correct info, which fixed my email display name in the iPhone mail app. This week, it changed back to the same wrong name, but it wasn’t changed in my gmail settings.. why/how was it changed in my iPhone settings without me touching it?

-- I suspect something is wrong. Your narrative would imply someone with access to your
Google Account first, and now, your iPhone. Does someone else also have access to your iPhone and the device through which you access your Google account?

Same thing has been happening to me. Plus my Gmail login has blinked on and off before opening my email account. Very ODD. Also, my Apple products have been having odd blinking glitches, is there a new Apple virus?
