Block or report someone in chat

You can block someone in Google Chat. People you block are excluded from certain Google services.

You can:

  • Block an individual 
  • Open links or attachments exchanged before or after you block someone
  • Send a message to someone you’ve blocked after you unblock them

You can't:

  • Edit messages after you block someone
  • Hide your online status from people you block
  • Hide that you’ve blocked someone

You can block or report in these ways:

Block in Gmail
  1. Go to Gmail.com
  2. On the left, next to the person's name, click More More.
  3. Click Block and report "".
    • If the person is in your organization, this option shows only as "Block."
Block in Chat
  1. Select the person.
  2. At the top, click the Down arrow Show search options.
  3. Click Block and report "".
    • If the person is in your organization, this option shows only as "Block."
  4. Click Block

You can also ignore message requests.

Report someone
  1. Click Also report
  2. Press Enter.

When you report someone, a copy of their last 10 messages is sent to Google for review.

Unblock someone
  1. Go to Gmail.com
  2. In the Chat tab, select Add Plus.
  3. Enter a name or email address.
  4. Select the person from the suggestions.
  5. Click Unblock.
