Sign out of Gmail

Depending on what device you use Gmail on, you can either sign out of Gmail, remove your Google Account, or switch between different accounts.

Sign out options

The only way to sign out of the Gmail app is to remove your entire account from your phone or tablet.

However, you can do many of the same tasks through other actions.

Remove your Google Account from your device

When you remove an account, it removes the account from all apps on the device. When your account is removed, you won’t be signed in to any Google products, like Maps or YouTube.

This option is good if you want to remove personal information from your device before you give it to someone else.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Manage accounts on this device.
  4. Choose your account.
  5. At the bottom, tap Remove account.
Tip: Removing the account from your phone or tablet won't delete the account itself, so you'll still be able to use it on a computer or other devices.
Check email from another account

You'll only see the option to check email from a non-Gmail email account if you're using an updated version of the Gmail app. If these steps don't work, try updating the Gmail app and then trying again.

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Gmail app .
  2. In the top right, tap your profile picture.
  3. Tap Add another account.
  4. Choose the type of account you want to add.
    • If you check work or school emails through Outlook for Windows, select Outlook, Hotmail, and Live.
    • If you don't see your email service, select Other.
  5. Follow the steps on the screen to add your account.
  6. Tap the account you want to use.
Tip: If you share a device with other people, try adding them as separate users or adding them as a guest on your device.
