Reply to Gmail messages

You can reply only to the person who sent you an email, or to everyone who received the email.

Reply to messages

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app .
  2. Open the message.
  3. At the bottom of the message, tap Reply Reply or Reply all Reply all . Tip: Suggested phrases might show up based on the email you received. To quickly start your reply, tap a phrase. You can edit your reply before sending.
  4. Tap Send Send.

Turn off Nudges

You might see old emails at the top of your inbox with a suggestion to reply or follow up.
To hide these suggestions:
  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings .
  3. Under "Inbox," tap Inbox customizations and then Nudges.
  4. In the "Nudges" section, turn off "Suggest emails to reply to" or "Suggest emails to follow up on".

Turn off Smart Reply

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app .
  2. At the top left, tap Menu Menu and then Settings .
  3. Under "Compose and Reply," tap Smart reply.
  4. Turn off "Smart Reply in email."
