Being a Local Guide is not just about helping people online. It’s about getting out there and exploring the world around you. If there’s something you’re passionate about, share it with Local Guides.
Google will not provide funding, collateral, or other types of incentives for these events. Meet-ups can be low cost or even free — simply grab your phone and explore your city on foot.
You must be signed up for Local Guides Connect in order to submit a meet-up. If your meet-up is approved, a post in Local Guides Connect will be automatically generated so that you can share updates with attendees.
We will review your meet-up within one week, so we encourage you to submit your meet-up as early as possible. We will notify you when your meet-up has been approved or rejected. If approved, we will add it to the list of upcoming meet-ups. Note that we may edit your meet-up description before publishing. If rejected, we will let you know why and you will be able to submit a new meet-up for us to review.
We approve meet-ups that involve bringing a community of Local Guides together. We reject meet-ups that are unrelated to Local Guides.
For now you will not be able to make changes to your meet-up once it’s been submitted. We recommend posting any updates to the Local Guides Connect post that will be auto-generated after your meet-up has been approved.
You can cancel your meet-up by visiting your event page and clicking the “Cancel my meet-up” button.
After your meet-up is approved, we will send you a link to an auto-generated post on Local Guides Connect where you and your meet-up attendees can get in touch. You will also be able to send up to three email announcements to attendees. Visit your approved meet-up page to learn more.
If approved, we will add it to the list of upcoming meet-ups. We may also feature select meet-ups on our social media channels (Google+, Facebook, Twitter) and in our newsletter. We also encourage you to promote your meet-up via your own social media channels and in your local community using #LocalGuides.
After your meet-up, thank your attendees for joining. Create a Google Photos album and share it with attendees so they can add their own photos.

Ideas for food crawls:
- Progressive meal: Do you ever feel like eating fish and chips, tacos, and pastries in one meal? Consider organizing a ‘progressive meal’ meet-up. Start with appetizers at A, then go for the main course at B, and complete your meal at C — you can craft your own around-the-world tour.
- Best of: Are you on a quest for the best of the best? Seize the opportunity by gathering fellow food lovers to find the best burger, ramen, coffee, or whatever your taste buds are craving — the sky's the limit.
- Local cuisine: Do you know neighborhood restaurants better than anyone else? Showcase your local spots by creating a My Map of the places that make your area unique.
Ideas for photo walks and picture ops:
- Local views: Show off what your city has to offer. Find a skyline, a panorama, or a sunset and capture the moment with your camera or phone.
- Interior views: Many people photograph the exterior of the Taj Mahal but far fewer people have seen the inside. Whether it’s intricate detailing, lofty ceilings, or famous artwork, this is your chance to share interior shots of local gems with the world.
- Be creative: Find a new way (using filters, interesting angles, etc.) to photograph popular places. We’ve all seen photos of Times Square or the London Eye — share your unique perspective through a different lens.
Ideas for exploring outdoors:
- Find a new area: Cities are dynamic and it’s hard to keep up with every new place. Explore new areas and make sure every detail — from opening hours to websites — is on Google Maps.
- Be a real guide: Think you know your city better than anyone else? Create your ideal walking tour using My Maps and show others what inspires you the most.
Ideas for editing the map:
- Add it: Are places in your hometown missing from Google Maps? Add details using ‘Add a place’ to help others find local businesses.
- Edit it: Poor driving directions or incorrect business hours? Use ‘Report a problem’ to fix the direction of a street or operating hours to help others. Correct details like opening hours, websites, and map pin locations help others save time and inconvenience.
