Create and use templates in Inbox

Add text and images that you’ve already created to the body of your email using templates. You can't edit a template after saving it, but you can delete it and create a new one. You can also edit your message before sending it.

Note: Templates are available only on Inbox for your computer.

Create a template

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. Compose a message.
  3. From the bottom of the compose window, click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  4. Click Templates Template reply and then Make this draft a template.
  5. From the "Template" window, give your template a name and finish editing it.
  6. Click Create.

Note: Information in templates doesn’t change from email to email. For example, a template that says "Dear FirstName" won’t automatically update to use a recipient's first name.

Reply using a template

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. Open the Compose window.
  3. From the bottom of the Compose window, click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  4. Click Templates Template reply.
  5. Select a template.

Delete a template

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. From the top left, click the Menu Menu.
  3. Click Settings and then Templates.
  4. Point your cursor to a template and click Delete Delete.

How Inbox template replies work with Gmail

If you have canned responses turned on in Gmail, your template replies are visible in both Inbox and Gmail. When you make a template in Inbox, it’ll show up in Gmail (and the other way around).
