Label emails in Inbox

You can organize your emails with labels you create, or existing labels, like "Social" and "Finance." Inbox can sort your labels into bundles or list them in the Menu Menu.

Create a label

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Inbox app Inbox.
  2. In the top left corner, tap Menu Menu and then Create new.
  3. Enter a name for your label and tap Done.

You can label emails as you get them based on specific criteria, like who sent the email or keywords in the email.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Inbox app Inbox.
  2. In the top left corner, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap a label.
  4. In the top right corner, tap Settings Settings .
  5. Under "Automatically add messages," tap Add.
  6. To pick where in the email to look, tap From and choose an option.
  7. Enter a name, email address, or keyword. Emails that would be labeled will show up below the list of criteria.
  8. To include more criteria, tap And and repeat steps 6 and 7.
  9. When you’re finished, tap Save.

Label emails one by one

You can label emails already in your inbox one at a time.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Inbox app Inbox.
  2. Tap an email that you want to label.
  3. In the top right corner of the email, tap More More.
    • To add the email to an existing label, tap the label.
    • To add the email to a new label, tap Add Add. Then type a name for your label and tap Done.

Bundle emails together in your inbox

Group emails into bundles so that they show up as a single item in your inbox.

If you have labels with filters set up in Gmail, they’ll also be filtered in Inbox. Find out how to set up filters in Gmail.

Have emails skip the inbox

You can mark emails in a label done in Inbox when you get them.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Inbox app Inbox.
  2. In the top left corner, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap the label you want.
  4. Tap Settings Settings.
  5. Turn off Bundle messages in the inbox.
  6. If it appears, turn on As messages arrive, mark them done (skip the inbox).

Note: Emails marked done are archived in Gmail.

Set up notifications

You can choose whether to get notifications for emails in your labels.

Delete labels

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Inbox app Inbox.
  2. In the top left, tap Menu Menu.
  3. Tap the label you want to delete.
  4. In the top right corner, tap Settings Settings and then Delete (label name).
  5. Tap Delete.
