Label emails in Inbox

You can organize your emails with labels you create, or existing labels, like "Social" and "Finance." Inbox can sort your labels into bundles or list them in the Menu Menu.

Create a label

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. On the left, click Create new.
  3. Type a name for your label and click Save.
  4. Click Close.

You can label emails as you get them based on specific criteria, like who sent the email or keywords in the email.

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. On the left, next to the label you want, click Settings Settings.
  3. Under "Automatically add messages," click Add.
  4. In the "From" field, click the Down arrow Down Arrow.
  5. Choose an option.
  6. Enter a name, email address, or keyword. Emails that would be labeled are shown below.
  7. To include more criteria, click And and repeat steps 5 and 6.
  8. When you’re finished adding criteria, click Save.

Label emails one by one

You can label emails already in your inbox one at a time.

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. Open or choose an email that you want to add to a new label.
  3. In the top right corner of the email, click More More.
    • To add the email to an existing label, click the label.
    • To add the email to a new label, click Create new. Then type a name for your label and click Save.

Bundle emails together in your inbox

Group emails into bundles so that they show up as a single item in your inbox.

If you have labels with filters set up in Gmail, they’ll also be filtered in Inbox. Find out how to set up filters in Gmail.

Have emails skip the inbox

You can mark emails in a label done in Inbox when you get them.

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. On the left, next to the label you want, click Settings Settings.
  3. Turn off Bundle messages in the inbox.
  4. Check Skip the inbox.

Note: Emails marked done are archived in Gmail.

Set up notifications

You can choose whether to get notifications for emails in your labels.

Delete labels

  1. On your computer, open Inbox.
  2. On the left, next to the label you want to delete, click Settings Settings.
  3. Click Delete.
  4. Click Yes.
